Lesson 90 is a review lesson. It asks you to revisit two earlier ideas:

  • (79) Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved.
  • (80) Let me recognize my problems have been solved.

Though simple in words, these ideas go straight to the core of the Course’s metaphysics: there is only one problem, and it has already been answered. The rest is the ego’s attempt to distract you from this.

I. The Core Teaching

1. The one problem

According to A Course in Miracles, every problem you think you have—money, health, relationships, time, self-worth, fear, guilt—comes down to one underlying problem:

The belief that you are separate from God, separate from Love.

This belief is the “tiny mad idea” the Course speaks of. From that single belief, an entire world of conflict, lack, and fear seems to arise. The world you see is like a movie that plays out this one belief in endless variations.

Lesson 79 says:

*“Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved.”*

The Course is telling you:

You do not have many problems. You only have one.

And that one problem has already been answered in the Mind of God.

The problem: separation.

The answer: you have never truly separated.

2. What is the ego trying to hide?

The ego’s survival depends on you believing:

  • You are on your own.
  • You are guilty or not good enough.
  • You are vulnerable and at risk.
  • You must fix everything by yourself, and it’s very hard.

So the ego keeps you busy with:

  • Endless specific problems: “This bill, that person, this symptom, that mistake.”
  • Constant analysis: “Why did this happen? What does it mean? How do I protect myself?”
  • Blame and defense: “It’s their fault / my fault / life’s fault.”

The ego is trying to hide one simple fact:

*If there is only one problem, and it is already solved, the ego is unnecessary.*

If you accept that the separation never truly happened, then guilt is baseless, fear is baseless, and the ego’s whole identity collapses. So it distracts you with a thousand “urgent” issues, so you never look at the one underlying belief.

3. What is the Holy Spirit revealing?

The Holy Spirit in your mind is the memory of Truth. It speaks gently, quietly, and consistently:

  • “You are not alone.”
  • “You are still as God created you.”
  • “Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists.”

Lesson 80 says:

*“Let me recognize my problems have been solved.”*

This doesn’t mean your personality has figured everything out. It means:

  • In Reality, you never left God.
  • The answer to the “problem” of separation was given instantly: it is impossible.
  • Every situation you face is a new chance to accept that you are safe in God.

The Holy Spirit reveals that:

  • Behind every fear is the same mistaken belief in separation.
  • Behind every situation is the same opportunity: to choose peace instead of fear.
  • Behind every person is the same innocence you share.

II. Applied to Daily Life

Let’s bring this down to the level of your day.

1. Relationships

Suppose you’re upset with a partner, friend, or family member.

The ego says:

  • “The problem is them. They don’t listen. They hurt me. They’re selfish.”

The Holy Spirit gently invites:

  • “The only problem here is that you feel separate from love. You think you are not safe, not valued, not joined. That is the real pain.”

You might practice:

  • “Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved.

The problem is not what they did.

The problem is my belief that I can be abandoned or attacked in truth.”

Then:

  • “Let me recognize my problems have been solved.

In truth, I cannot be abandoned. I remain as Love created me.

I ask to see this person and myself through the eyes of the Holy Spirit.”

You may still set boundaries or have honest conversations, but now from a place of peace rather than attack. The form of the relationship may change, but the content in your mind shifts from fear to love.

2. Work and money

You may feel stressed about your job, your boss, your income, or your future.

The ego says:

  • “The problem is the economy, the competition, your lack of ability, your age, your circumstances.”

The Holy Spirit says:

  • “The only problem is that you believe you are unsupported and on your own.”

You might say:

  • “Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved.

My problem is not this job or this number in my bank account.

My problem is the belief that my safety comes from the world.”

Then:

  • “Let me recognize my problems have been solved.

My safety comes from God, not from a paycheck.

I am willing to be led, to listen, to follow inner guidance.”

From this place, you can still look for work, learn new skills, or make practical changes, but you do so without panic, trusting that you are carried.

3. Illness and the body

When the body is sick or in pain, fear can be intense.

The ego says:

  • “The problem is this body. It’s failing. You are at the mercy of time and chance.”

The Holy Spirit whispers:

  • “The only problem is that you think you are this body, and that your life is fragile and temporary.”

You can still seek medical help, take medicine, and care for the body. The Course never asks you to deny your experience. But internally you might say:

  • “Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved.

The problem is my belief that my identity is this body, and that I can be truly harmed.”

  • “Let me recognize my problems have been solved.

My true Self is Spirit, untouched by sickness or death.

I ask to feel the peace of my real Identity, even while I care for this body.”

This doesn’t magically erase symptoms, but it opens the door to deep inner peace, even in difficulty.

4. Anxiety and daily stress

You might feel anxious about time, responsibilities, or the state of the world.

The ego says:

  • “The problem is too many demands, not enough time, and a dangerous world.”

The Holy Spirit says:

  • “The only problem is that you believe you are a small self, overwhelmed by forces outside your control.”

You may pause and say:

  • “Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved.

The problem is my belief that I am separate, weak, and alone.”

  • “Let me recognize my problems have been solved.

I am joined with the strength of God. I am not alone in anything I do.”

From there, you might still plan, organize, and prioritize, but with a calmer mind and a sense that you are being helped from within.

III. Overcoming Resistance

This lesson can feel threatening to the ego because it challenges its entire way of thinking.

Why it may feel difficult

1. *You may feel invalidated.*

“Are you saying my problems aren’t real? They feel very real.”

The Course is not dismissing your feelings. It is saying:

The form of the problem is not the real issue. The content—the belief in separation—is the real issue. Your pain is taken seriously, and the Holy Spirit wants to heal it at its root.

2. *You may fear losing control.*

“If my problems are already solved, what am I supposed to do? Just sit and do nothing?”

Recognizing the problem as already solved doesn’t mean passivity. It means you stop trying to solve it alone, through fear. You become willing to be guided, to act from peace instead of panic.

3. *You may fear losing your identity.*

Many of our problems are tied to roles: the struggler, the victim, the fixer, the responsible one. Letting go of these problems can feel like letting go of who you think you are.

The Holy Spirit promises a gentler identity: the beloved Child of God, innocent and safe. But at first, this can feel unfamiliar.

If you notice fear or resistance, you can simply say:

  • “Holy Spirit, I am afraid of letting go.

I am willing to be shown a gentler way.

Help me trust that I lose nothing real by accepting Your answer.”

IV. Today’s Practice

Lesson 90 is a review. The Course suggests you spend about five minutes in the morning and evening, and then use the ideas frequently during the day.

Here’s a simple structure you can follow:

1. Morning practice (about 5 minutes)

1. Sit quietly, close your eyes if comfortable.

2. Slowly bring to mind the first idea:

*“Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved.”*

3. Let your mind wander over the “problems” you think you have today—big or small.

4. For each one, gently say:

  • “This is not a separate problem.

It is the same one problem: my belief in separation.”

5. Then say:

  • “I am willing to see that there is only one problem.

And I am willing to let it be solved.”

6. Now move to the second idea:

*“Let me recognize my problems have been solved.”*

7. Rest with this thought. Let it sink in, even if you don’t fully believe it.

8. You might add:

  • “The answer has already been given.

I do not have to figure it out alone.

I am willing to accept the solution.”

2. During the day

Whenever you feel upset, anxious, angry, or worried:

1. Pause, even for a few seconds.

2. Say silently:

  • “Let me recognize the problem so it can be solved.”

3. Ask yourself:

  • “Am I believing I am separate, guilty, or alone right now?”

4. Then say:

  • “Let me recognize my problems have been solved.

I choose to remember I am not alone in this.”

5. Take a gentle breath and allow a little space for peace to enter.

You don’t have to feel instant peace. The willingness to turn toward these ideas is the practice.

3. Evening practice (about 5 minutes)

1. Review your day. Notice where you felt disturbed.

2. For each incident, say:

  • “I thought the problem was [name the situation].

The real problem was my belief in separation.”

3. Then say:

  • “Let me recognize my problems have been solved.

I place this day in the Hands of the Holy Spirit.

I accept the correction of my mind.”

Rest a moment in quiet, letting the day be reinterpreted in light of peace.

V. Comparable ACIM Lessons

Several other lessons echo the same core idea:

  • **Lesson 26:** “My attack thoughts are attacking my invulnerability.”

Shows that the “problem” is always in the mind, not in the world.

  • **Lesson 70:** “My salvation comes from me.”

Points out that the solution is inside your mind, not outside in circumstances.

  • **Lesson 79 & 80 (original lessons):** The ones reviewed today, laying the foundation that there is one problem and one solution.

  • **Lesson 89 (yesterday’s review):** “I am entitled to miracles” and “Let miracles replace all grievances.”

Miracles are the shift from seeing many problems to seeing one healed mind.

  • **Lesson 99:** “Salvation is my only function here.”

Salvation is simply the recognition that the problem of separation has already been undone.

All these lessons converge on the same truth: your peace does not depend on changing the world, but on accepting a different Teacher in your mind.

VI. Closing Thought

Today, you are not asked to fix everything.

You are only asked to recognize that what you thought were many problems are really one mistaken belief—and that this belief has already been answered by Love.

You can rest a little more today.

You are not alone with your problems.

You walk with the Answer already shining in your mind.
