*ACIM Lesson 77: “I am entitled to miracles.”*
The Core Teaching
“I am entitled to miracles” is not a statement of arrogance. It is a statement of truth about what you are as God created you.
In the Course, a miracle is not a flashy event in the world. It is a shift in perception—from fear to love, from separation to unity, from ego to Spirit. When you accept that you are entitled to miracles, you are really accepting that you are entitled to see truly, to think with God instead of with the ego.
What the Ego Is Trying to Hide
The ego’s main strategy is very simple: it wants you to believe you are small, guilty, and separate.
To keep this belief intact, the ego tries to hide three key truths:
1. *Your innocence*
The ego insists you are guilty—of past mistakes, of hurting others, of failing, of not being “enough.”
Why? Because if you feel guilty, you will fear God, fear love, and fear your own Self.
If you are guilty, you will think you don’t deserve miracles.
2. *Your power as a mind*
The Course teaches that the mind is powerful and never stops creating or miscreating.
The ego wants you to believe you are a victim of the world, of your body, of other people, of circumstances.
If you believe you are a victim, you won’t realize that your perception is the cause of your experience—and that a miracle can change it.
3. *Your union with God and all your brothers*
The ego thrives on separation: “me vs. you,” “me vs. life,” “me vs. God.”
If you knew you were joined with God and with everyone in one shared mind, the whole ego story would collapse.
Miracles reveal this joining, so the ego must keep them out of your awareness.
So the ego whispers:
“You are not worthy of miracles.”
“You are too damaged, too sinful, too late.”
“You must earn love, and you haven’t.”
Lesson 77 gently answers:
“I am entitled to miracles because of what I am, not because of what I have done.”
What the Holy Spirit Is Revealing
The Holy Spirit, the Voice for God in your mind, is always revealing the opposite of what the ego claims:
1. *You are innocent, as God created you.*
Your mistakes are errors to be corrected, not sins to be punished.
The Holy Spirit looks on everything you think you did “wrong” and says, “This can be reinterpreted. This can be healed.”
2. *You are not a victim of the world you see.*
Your experience comes from your interpretation, not from the external situation itself.
A miracle changes your interpretation—and with that, your experience.
3. *You are joined, never alone.*
You are not a separate self trying to survive in a hostile world.
You are a beloved extension of God’s Love, forever held in that Love.
Miracles restore your awareness of this fact, even if only for a moment.
So when you say, “I am entitled to miracles,” you are aligning with the Holy Spirit’s view of you. You are saying:
“I am as God created me, and therefore I am entitled to see with love instead of fear.”
Applied to Daily Life
Let’s bring this into very ordinary situations, because that is where the Course is meant to be lived.
1. Relationships
Suppose you are in conflict with a partner, friend, or family member. You feel misunderstood, hurt, or angry. The ego says:
- “They are the problem.”
- “They must change.”
- “I am justified in my anger.”
In that moment, you can pause and quietly say:
“I am entitled to miracles in this relationship.”
You are not demanding that the other person behave differently. You are asking for a shift in perception:
- From blame to willingness.
- From “I know what this means” to “Maybe I don’t.”
- From “I am right” to “I want peace more than I want to be right.”
You might suddenly see their fear instead of their attack. You might feel a softening in your heart. You might be moved to listen instead of defend. That is the miracle.
2. Work and Career
At work, you may feel pressure, competition, or fear of failure. The ego says:
- “Your value depends on your performance.”
- “You must prove yourself.”
- “You are at the mercy of the economy, your boss, your clients.”
In a stressful moment, you can remember:
“I am entitled to miracles in this situation.”
You are entitled to a new way of seeing:
- Maybe this deadline is not an attack, but an opportunity to practice trust.
- Maybe this difficult coworker is a mirror showing you where you still judge yourself.
- Maybe your worth has nothing to do with your job at all.
The outer circumstances may or may not change immediately, but your inner experience can shift from anxiety to quiet trust. That is a miracle.
3. Illness and the Body
When you are ill or in pain, the ego says:
- “The body is you.”
- “You are weak, vulnerable, and at the mercy of sickness.”
- “You are being punished, or you are unlucky.”
The Course never asks you to deny symptoms or skip practical care. But it does invite you to see differently:
“I am entitled to miracles in how I see this body and this illness.”
A miracle might look like:
- A release of fear around the diagnosis.
- A sense of being held and loved, even in pain.
- A deep trust that your real Self is untouched by any bodily condition.
Sometimes physical healing occurs; sometimes it does not. But the true miracle is always the healing of fear and guilt in the mind.
4. Anxiety and Daily Stress
You may feel anxious about money, the future, your children, your safety. The ego keeps feeding the story:
- “You are on your own.”
- “You must control everything.”
- “Something bad is coming.”
In the midst of this, you can gently say:
“I am entitled to miracles in my mind right now.”
You are asking to see the situation with the Holy Spirit instead of with the ego. You may feel:
- A subtle sense of being supported.
- A reminder that you have gotten through many things before.
- A quiet inner voice saying, “You are not alone.”
This is the miracle: the replacement of fear with trust, even if the outer situation has not yet shifted.
Overcoming Resistance
This lesson can feel threatening to the ego for several reasons.
1. “I don’t feel worthy.”
You may think, “How can I be entitled to miracles after everything I’ve done or failed to do?”
The Course would answer:
- Your worth is established by God and cannot be changed.
- Your past does not define your Self.
- Miracles are not rewards; they are natural expressions of love.
If you feel unworthy, simply notice that feeling and bring it to the Holy Spirit:
“I feel I don’t deserve miracles. Please show me how You see me.”
2. Fear of letting go of control
To accept miracles, you must admit you do not know what anything is for. The ego hates this. It wants to be right, to control outcomes, to manage everything.
You might fear:
- “If I let go, I’ll be taken advantage of.”
- “If I trust, I’ll be disappointed.”
- “If I don’t defend myself, I’ll be hurt.”
The Holy Spirit does not ask you to be naive. He asks you to let Him reinterpret everything for you. You can say:
“I am willing to see this differently, but I am afraid. Please help me.”
3. Fear of losing your identity
The ego is built from your stories: your grievances, your wounds, your roles. Miracles gently loosen these stories. Part of you may feel:
- “If I forgive, who will I be?”
- “If I stop being the victim, what happens to my identity?”
- “If I accept I am innocent, what happens to my familiar guilt?”
This fear is understandable. The Course never shames you for it. It simply says:
You are not being asked to lose anything real—only illusions.
What remains is your true Self, which is love.
Today’s Practice (Lesson 77)
Here is a simple way to practice this lesson throughout the day.
1. Morning Quiet Time (5–10 minutes)
1. Sit quietly, close your eyes, and take a few gentle breaths.
2. Say slowly, with as much sincerity as you can:
- “I am entitled to miracles.”
3. Then add:
- “I am entitled to miracles because I am under no laws but God’s.”
4. Let the words sink in. You do not have to feel them yet. Just be willing.
5. Gently bring to mind one situation that troubles you—something specific.
6. Say:
- “I am entitled to miracles in this situation.”
- “Let miracles replace all grievances here.”
7. Sit quietly and allow any softening, any sense of openness, to arise. If nothing seems to happen, that is okay. The willingness itself is the beginning of the miracle.
2. Short Practice Periods (Several Times a Day)
Whenever you feel upset, anxious, angry, or guilty:
1. Pause, even for 10–20 seconds.
2. Silently say:
- “I am entitled to miracles.”
3. Then apply it:
- “I am entitled to miracles in this [name the situation].”
4. If you can, add:
- “Let me see this as the Holy Spirit sees it.”
You are not forcing a new feeling. You are inviting a new perception.
3. Evening Reflection
Before sleep, take a moment to look back over your day:
1. Notice any times you remembered the idea.
2. Notice any small shifts in your reactions, even subtle ones.
3. If you forgot often, do not judge yourself. Instead say:
- “Even now, I am entitled to miracles. I am willing to remember more tomorrow.”
Comparable ACIM Lessons
This lesson is closely related to several others:
- **Lesson 20: “I am determined to see.”**
Your determination to see is the same as your openness to miracles. Both are about choosing vision over judgment.
- **Lesson 38: “There is nothing my holiness cannot do.”**
Your entitlement to miracles comes from your holiness—your innocence as God created you.
- **Lesson 50: “I am sustained by the Love of God.”**
If you are sustained by God’s Love, then miracles—corrections in perception—are your natural inheritance.
- **Lesson 76: “I am under no laws but God’s.”**
Lesson 77 builds directly on this: if only God’s laws are real, then the laws of fear, guilt, and limitation are not. Therefore, you are entitled to the corrections (miracles) that restore you to awareness of God’s laws.
- **Lesson 89 (Review including Lesson 77):**
The Course later revisits this idea, showing how central it is to your healing.
Closing Thought
You do not have to make miracles happen. You only need to stop insisting that you are unworthy of them.
Today, let this idea rest gently in your mind:
“I am entitled to miracles, because I am as God created me.”
Even if you believe it only a little, that little willingness is enough for the Holy Spirit to begin His work. Let Him show you, step by gentle step, how loved you truly are.
