Lesson 60 in A Course in Miracles is a review lesson. It gathers five earlier ideas and invites you to deepen into them. The five ideas are:

1. (46) God is the Love in which I forgive.

2. (47) God is the Strength in which I trust.

3. (48) There is nothing to fear.

4. (49) God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.

5. (50) I am sustained by the Love of God.

This lesson is like a gentle turning point. It begins to show you that forgiveness, trust, fearlessness, guidance, and true sustenance are not five separate practices, but one experience: remembering that you are held in God’s Love.

I. The Core Teaching

1. God is the Love in which I forgive

*Metaphysical meaning:*

Forgiveness in ACIM is not about being morally superior or “letting someone off the hook.” It is recognizing that what the ego made—attack, guilt, separation—is not ultimately real in God’s Mind. God is only Love. In that Love, no real harm has ever occurred. The ego’s story of sin and punishment is a dream.

The ego is trying to hide:

  • The innocence of everyone, including you.
  • The fact that guilt is a defense against Love, not a proof of sin.
  • That your brother is your Self, not your enemy.

The Holy Spirit is revealing:

  • That every grievance is based on a misperception.
  • That your brother’s “attack” is a call for love or a reflection of your own unhealed fear.
  • That forgiveness is the way you remember your own holiness.

When you forgive “in the Love of God,” you are not forcing yourself to be kind; you are allowing your perception to be corrected. You are saying: “I choose to see with the vision of Christ instead of the eyes of the body.”

2. God is the Strength in which I trust

*Metaphysical meaning:*

Your personal strength—your willpower, your plans, your defenses—is fragile because it’s built on a separate identity. The Course teaches that your true strength is not in your individuality, but in your union with God.

The ego is trying to hide:

  • How exhausted it is from trying to control everything.
  • That its “strength” is actually constant tension and vigilance.
  • That it is terrified of surrender, because surrender means the end of its rule.

The Holy Spirit is revealing:

  • That you do not live by your own power.
  • That real strength is quiet, unafraid, and needs no defense.
  • That you are carried, not driven.

To trust in God’s strength is to relax the constant inner effort to manage life alone and to let yourself be supported from within.

3. There is nothing to fear

*Metaphysical meaning:*

If God is only Love, and you remain as God created you, then nothing real can be threatened. Fear arises only from belief in separation—from thinking you are cut off from your Source and from your brothers.

The ego is trying to hide:

  • That it *needs* fear to keep you believing in it.
  • That all fear is the same fear: fear of Love, fear of God, fear of losing a separate self.
  • That every fearful story it tells is a distraction from the present peace available now.

The Holy Spirit is revealing:

  • That fear is a mistake in thinking, not a fact.
  • That beneath every fear is the memory of Love calling you home.
  • That you are safe at the deepest level, regardless of appearances.

“There is nothing to fear” does not deny your feelings; it gently questions their cause and invites a higher interpretation.

4. God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day

*Metaphysical meaning:*

The Holy Spirit is in your mind as the Answer to the separation. This Voice is not loud or dramatic. It is a quiet, steady guidance that is always present, because your mind is never truly apart from God.

The ego is trying to hide:

  • That you already hear the Holy Spirit, but often dismiss it as “just a thought.”
  • That it constantly talks over this Voice with worry, judgment, and planning.
  • That it fears losing control if you actually follow this inner guidance.

The Holy Spirit is revealing:

  • That you are never alone in any situation.
  • That help, direction, and comfort are always available.
  • That guidance is not only about behavior, but about how you *see*—about choosing peace instead of conflict.

5. I am sustained by the Love of God

*Metaphysical meaning:*

The ego believes you live by money, food, medicine, relationships, status, and external conditions. The Course does not deny the world’s forms, but it says they are not your true source of life or safety. Only Love sustains you because only Love is real.

The ego is trying to hide:

  • Its dependence on external idols to feel safe.
  • That it uses lack and scarcity to keep you anxious and controllable.
  • That it cannot imagine a life where Love, not fear, is the organizing principle.

The Holy Spirit is revealing:

  • That your being is held in God at every moment.
  • That nothing outside you can add to or take away from your true worth.
  • That when you remember Love as your Source, your relationship with all “needs” becomes peaceful and guided.

II. Applied to Daily Life

1. Relationships

Imagine a conflict with a partner or friend. The ego says:

  • “They hurt me.”
  • “I need them to change.”
  • “I can’t trust them.”

Apply the lesson:

  • “God is the Love in which I forgive” – I ask to see their innocence and my own. I admit I may not be seeing clearly.
  • “God is the Strength in which I trust” – I don’t need to protect myself with attack or withdrawal. I can be honest and kind, trusting a deeper strength.
  • “There is nothing to fear” – This relationship cannot truly threaten my Self. Only my thoughts can disturb my peace.
  • “God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day” – I pause, listen within: “What would You have me say or do here?”
  • “I am sustained by the Love of God” – My worth and safety do not depend on this person’s approval or behavior.

From this place, you may still set boundaries or make changes, but they come from clarity, not fear.

2. Work and Finances

You may worry about money, performance, or recognition.

The ego says:

  • “My job sustains me.”
  • “If I lose this, I lose everything.”
  • “I must constantly prove my value.”

The lesson invites:

  • “I am sustained by the Love of God” – My real security is not in a paycheck, but in the Love that created me.
  • “God is the Strength in which I trust” – I can work diligently without panic. I can be guided to right action.
  • “God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day” – I can ask for help with decisions, conversations, and priorities.
  • “There is nothing to fear” – Even changes or losses can be reinterpreted as part of a loving plan for my awakening.

You still handle practical matters, but with less strain and more inner spaciousness.

3. Illness and the Body

When you or someone you love is ill, fear naturally arises.

The ego says:

  • “The body is who I am.”
  • “This proves I am vulnerable and alone.”
  • “God must be indifferent or punishing.”

The lesson offers:

  • “God is the Love in which I forgive” – I forgive myself for believing I am only a body. I forgive the world for seeming to hurt me.
  • “God is the Strength in which I trust” – I can face treatments, decisions, or uncertainty with a deeper calm.
  • “There is nothing to fear” – My true Self cannot be harmed. The body’s story is not the whole truth.
  • “God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day” – I can be guided to the right helpers, therapies, and attitudes.
  • “I am sustained by the Love of God” – My life is in God, not in flesh. Love sustains my mind even if the body is weak.

This does not mean you deny symptoms or refuse help. It means you invite a different Teacher to interpret what is happening.

4. Anxiety and Daily Stress

In small daily stresses—traffic, delays, misunderstandings—the ego constantly whispers: “You’re not safe. You’re not in control.”

Use the lesson like a gentle reset:

  • Stuck in traffic: “There is nothing to fear. I am sustained by the Love of God. Let me use this time to remember peace.”
  • Waiting for news: “God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day. I choose to listen to peace, not to panic.”
  • Feeling overwhelmed: “God is the Strength in which I trust. I do not need to carry this alone.”

These ideas are not meant to be abstract. They are tools for every small irritation and every big fear.

III. Overcoming Resistance

This lesson can feel difficult because it challenges the ego’s entire worldview.

You might think:

  • “If I forgive, I’ll be taken advantage of.”
  • “If I trust God, I’ll lose control and bad things will happen.”
  • “How can there be nothing to fear when the world is so dangerous?”
  • “I don’t hear any inner Voice.”
  • “Love of God sustaining me sounds nice, but I still have bills and problems.”

The Course never asks you to pretend you don’t feel what you feel. It invites you to bring your resistance to the Holy Spirit.

You can say:

  • “I am afraid to forgive. Please help me see this differently.”
  • “I don’t trust that You will take care of me. Show me, gently, that I am not alone.”
  • “I don’t believe there is nothing to fear. But I am willing to question my fear.”
  • “I feel like I can’t hear Your Voice. Help me recognize the quiet thoughts of peace I usually ignore.”

Your willingness is enough. You are not asked to leap into perfect faith, only to take small steps away from fear and toward Love.

IV. Today’s Practice (Lesson 60)

Here is a simple way to practice today:

1. Morning quiet time (5–10 minutes)

  • Sit comfortably, close your eyes.
  • Slowly go through each of the five ideas, one by one:

1. God is the Love in which I forgive.

2. God is the Strength in which I trust.

3. There is nothing to fear.

4. God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.

5. I am sustained by the Love of God.

  • After each idea, pause and let it sink in. You might say:
  • “Let me feel what this means for me now.”
  • Notice any resistance or comfort that arises. Just observe without judgment.

2. Brief applications during the day

Whenever you feel disturbed, anxious, angry, or sad:

  • Pause for a moment.
  • Choose one of the five ideas that feels most relevant.
  • If you’re upset with someone: “God is the Love in which I forgive.”
  • If you feel weak or overwhelmed: “God is the Strength in which I trust.”
  • If you’re afraid: “There is nothing to fear.”
  • If you feel confused: “God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.”
  • If you feel insecure or lacking: “I am sustained by the Love of God.”
  • Repeat the chosen idea slowly a few times, letting it replace the fearful thought.

3. Short reflection periods (2–3 times)

  • Take a few minutes, perhaps mid-morning and afternoon, to revisit all five ideas.
  • You might ask: “Where today did I forget this?” and then gently bring that situation into the light of the idea.

4. Evening review (5 minutes)

  • Before sleep, recall the day.
  • Notice any moments where you used the ideas and felt even a small shift.
  • Notice also where you forgot, without blame.
  • Gently repeat the five ideas once more, offering the entire day to the Holy Spirit for healing.

V. Comparable ACIM Lessons

These ideas connect strongly with:

  • **Lesson 26: “My attack thoughts are attacking my invulnerability.”**

Related to “There is nothing to fear.” Attack thoughts make you feel vulnerable; without them, fear fades.

  • **Lesson 34: “I could see peace instead of this.”**

Ties to forgiveness and trust. Peace is always an option because perception can be changed.

  • **Lesson 41: “God goes with me wherever I go.”**

Very close to “God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day” and “I am sustained by the Love of God.” You are never without Help.

  • **Lesson 70: “My salvation comes from me.”**

Echoes the idea that salvation is an inner shift—from ego to Holy Spirit—not a change in external circumstances.

  • **Lesson 109: “I rest in God.”**

Deepens “God is the Strength in which I trust” and “There is nothing to fear.” Rest is the natural state of a mind that knows it is sustained by Love.

VI. Closing Thought

You are not asked to perfect these ideas today. You are simply invited to remember them, even for a moment, in the midst of your ordinary life. Each time you choose one of these thoughts instead of a fearful one, you open a little more space for the Holy Spirit to heal your mind.

Let today be gentle. Let these ideas be like soft hands on your shoulder, reminding you: You are loved, you are guided, and you are far safer than you think.
