My Father gives all power unto me.

Here is the idea for *A Course in Miracles Lesson 320*:
*“My Father gives all power unto me.”*
The Core Teaching
This lesson is a radical correction of how we see ourselves. The Course is telling you that *you are not weak, not a victim, not at the mercy of the world. You are the holy Child of God, and your Father has given all power* to you because you share His Mind.
This is not about personal ego power—getting what “I” want, making others obey, or manifesting a better life through willpower. That is the ego’s version of “power.” The Course is pointing to something much deeper:
- The **power to choose** between illusion and truth.
- The **power to accept or reject** the ego’s story.
- The **power to forgive** and thus release the world from the chains you put upon it.
- The **power to remember** your true Identity as spirit, not a body.
In ACIM, “power” is always about *mind, not form. The body is neutral. The world is a projection. The real power lies in the decision-making mind* that chooses which teacher to follow: the ego or the Holy Spirit.
What is the ego trying to hide?
The ego’s survival depends on you believing you are:
- small
- separate
- guilty
- vulnerable
- at the mercy of forces outside you
So the ego tries to hide the fact that:
1. *Your mind is the cause, not the effect.*
If you remembered that the world you see is a projection of your own thoughts, you would stop blaming and start forgiving. The ego cannot survive in a mind that takes responsibility for its perception.
2. *You are not a victim.*
The ego needs you to feel attacked, abandoned, unfairly treated. This keeps the story of separation alive. If you knew you had the power to reinterpret every situation with the Holy Spirit, the ego’s drama would lose its grip.
3. *You are loved and innocent.*
The ego’s whole system is built on guilt and fear. If you remembered that God’s Will for you is perfect happiness and that He has never condemned you, the ego’s foundation would crumble.
So the ego whispers:
“You are powerless. You are stuck. You are at the mercy of circumstances, of your body, of other people, of the past.”
It hides your true power by convincing you that you *have none.*
What is the Holy Spirit revealing?
The Holy Spirit gently reveals the opposite:
- **You are the Christ, still as God created you.**
- **Nothing real can be threatened.** Your true Self cannot be harmed.
- **Nothing unreal exists.** The ego’s world of attack, loss, and death is a dream.
- **Your mind is powerful beyond measure** because it shares the Mind of God.
When the lesson says, “My Father gives all power unto me,” it means:
- You have the power to **change your mind** about the world.
- You have the power to **see innocence instead of guilt.**
- You have the power to **accept the Atonement** for yourself—to let go of the belief that you separated from God.
- You have the power to **let the Holy Spirit think through you, speak through you, and love through you.**
This is not arrogance. The Course calls it *true humility*: accepting the grandeur God gave you, instead of clinging to the ego’s littleness.
Applied to Daily Life
Let’s bring this into very ordinary, human situations.
1. Relationships
Suppose you feel hurt by a partner, friend, or family member. The ego says:
- “They did this to me.”
- “I’m powerless until they change.”
- “I can’t be at peace unless they apologize or behave differently.”
Lesson 320 invites another view:
- “My Father gives all power unto me. I have the power to choose peace now.”
- “I can ask the Holy Spirit to show me their innocence and mine.”
- “I can release them from the role I cast them in.”
You might say silently:
“I feel hurt, but I am not powerless. Holy Spirit, help me see this through Your eyes. Show me where I am choosing to see attack instead of a call for love.”
You are not denying the feelings; you are reclaiming the *power to interpret* the situation differently. That is where your freedom lies.
2. Work and career
At work you may feel trapped, unappreciated, or anxious about the future. The ego says:
- “The economy controls my life.”
- “My boss decides my worth.”
- “I’m stuck here.”
The Holy Spirit reminds you:
- “Your peace does not depend on any job.”
- “You have the power to bring love, patience, and honesty into this place today.”
- “Guidance is always available. You are not alone in any decision.”
You might pause at your desk and say:
“Father, You have given all power unto me. Not to control outcomes, but to choose love. Show me how to be truly helpful here today.”
Then you listen. Maybe you are guided to be kind to a coworker, to speak honestly in a meeting, or to quietly bless the whole office. These are expressions of your true power.
3. Illness and the body
If you are ill or in pain, the ego insists:
- “The body rules me.”
- “I am my symptoms.”
- “I am weak and at the mercy of this condition.”
The Course never asks you to deny the body or refuse ordinary care. But it does ask you to remember:
- You are **not** a body; you are **mind**, and mind is powerful.
- Your true Self cannot be sick.
- You have the power to choose whether you see yourself as a victim of the body or as a holy mind using a body for learning and blessing.
You might say:
“This pain feels real to me. I will not pretend it doesn’t. But I choose to remember that my real Self is untouched. Holy Spirit, use this situation to teach me peace and to extend love.”
Your power here is the power to *respond with love instead of fear*, to ask for a miracle of perception, and to let your experience—whatever it looks like—be used for awakening.
4. Anxiety and daily stress
When anxiety rises—about money, family, health, the future—the ego says:
- “You’re in danger.”
- “You must control everything.”
- “You are alone.”
Lesson 320 offers another inner response:
“I feel afraid, but fear is not my master. My Father gives all power unto me. I can choose to trust. I can choose to remember that I am held in a Love that cannot fail.”
You might imagine placing the situation in the Holy Spirit’s hands:
“I give this to You. Decide for God for me. I do not know what anything is for, but You do.”
Your anxiety may not vanish instantly, but you have used your true power: *the power to turn toward Love instead of toward fear.*
Overcoming Resistance
This lesson can feel threatening to the ego for several reasons:
1. *It challenges the victim identity.*
Many of us have built our sense of self around being hurt, unlucky, or mistreated. To accept that we have power in our mind can feel like losing a familiar identity.
2. *It seems to blame us.*
The ego twists this teaching into: “If your mind is powerful, then everything that happens is your fault.”
The Holy Spirit never speaks this way. He says, “Nothing is your fault, because you are innocent. But your mind is powerful, and you can choose again.”
3. *It threatens the ego’s control.*
If you truly accept that your power comes from God, the ego’s little strategies—manipulation, defense, attack—begin to look meaningless. The ego fears being out of a job.
You may feel doubts like:
- “If I’m so powerful, why am I still suffering?”
- “If I accept this, will I have to give up my desires?”
- “What if God’s Will is not what I want?”
The gentle answer is:
- Your suffering comes from using your power to believe in illusions. You are not bad for doing this; you were simply mistaken.
- You will not lose anything real by accepting your power in God. You will lose only fear, guilt, and conflict.
- God’s Will for you is perfect happiness. If you fear His Will, it’s because you have confused happiness with sacrifice.
It is okay to be afraid of this lesson. Just bring the fear to the Holy Spirit:
“I am afraid of my own power. I am afraid of what this means. Please hold my hand and show me only what I am ready to see.”
Today’s Practice
Here is a simple way to practice Lesson 320 today.
1. Morning quiet time (5–15 minutes)
- Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and breathe gently.
- Say slowly, several times:
“My Father gives all power unto me.
His Will is that I remember who I am.”
- Let the words sink in. Don’t try to force belief. Just allow them to rest in your mind like a soft light.
- Then say:
“Holy Spirit, show me today where I am pretending to be powerless.
Help me remember the power You have given me:
the power to forgive, to choose peace, to see innocence.”
- Sit in silence for a few minutes. If thoughts come, let them pass. Gently return to:
“My Father gives all power unto me.”
2. During the day: short reminders
Whenever you feel stressed, hurt, or afraid, pause for a few seconds:
1. Notice the feeling: “I feel anxious / angry / sad.”
2. Say inwardly:
“I am not a victim of the world I see.
My Father gives all power unto me.”
3. Ask:
“How would I see this if I remembered my power to choose love?”
You don’t need a clear answer every time. The willingness to ask is already a use of your true power.
3. In a specific difficulty
If a particular situation is troubling you, take a minute alone:
- Bring the situation to mind.
- Say:
“I feel powerless about this. But that cannot be true.
My Father gives all power unto me.
I give this situation to You, Holy Spirit.
Decide for God for me.”
- Then imagine stepping back, as if you are watching the situation from a place of safety and peace. You are not abandoning it; you are handing it over.
4. Evening reflection
Before sleep, review your day gently:
- Where did you feel powerless?
- Where did you remember—even briefly—that you could choose peace?
No judgment. Just notice. Then say:
“Thank You for every moment I remembered my power in You.
For every moment I forgot, I choose again now.
My Father gives all power unto me, and I accept it.”
Comparable ACIM Lessons
Several lessons echo and support Lesson 320:
- **Lesson 70: “My salvation comes from me.”**
Teaches that the answer is in your mind, not in the world. This is the same idea of inner power.
- **Lesson 31: “I am not the victim of the world I see.”**
Directly challenges the belief in powerlessness and victimhood.
- **Lesson 152: “The power of decision is my own.”**
Explains that your decision for which teacher to follow (ego or Holy Spirit) is the source of all your experience.
- **Lesson 196: “It can be but myself I crucify.”**
Shows that attack is always self-attack, and therefore you have the power to stop crucifying yourself.
- **Lesson 191: “I am the holy Son of God Himself.”**
States the same identity that underlies Lesson 320: if you are the holy Son of God, then of course all power is given you in Him.
These lessons form a single message: *You are not what the ego says you are. You are powerful in God because you share His Mind.*
Closing Thought
You do not have to feel powerful to be powerful.
You do not have to understand this fully to begin to live it.
Today, it is enough to whisper, even with doubt:
“My Father gives all power unto me.
I am willing to remember what this means.”
Each small willingness opens the door a little wider for the Holy Spirit to show you the strength, the peace, and the love that have always been yours.
