Lesson 94: *“I am as God created me.”*

(A Course in Miracles, Workbook)

The Core Teaching

This lesson is one of the central pillars of A Course in Miracles. It repeats a truth the ego is terrified of: *your real Identity has never changed.* You remain as God created you—whole, innocent, loving, and loved—no matter what you think you have done, what has been done to you, or how you feel today.

The ego’s entire thought system is built on one idea:

*“I have separated from God and ruined everything.”*

From this hidden belief come guilt, fear, shame, and the sense of being fundamentally flawed. The ego then builds a self-image around this: a “me” who is weak, vulnerable, unworthy, and constantly needing to prove or defend itself.

Lesson 94 gently exposes this as a dream. It says, in essence:

  • You are not the small self you think you are.
  • You are not your history, your body, your trauma, your mistakes, or your roles.
  • You are as God created you: pure spirit, unchanged and unchangeable.

What is the ego trying to hide?

The ego is trying to hide *your innocence and your power*.

1. *Your innocence*

If you truly accepted that you are as God created you, you would know you are guiltless. Not “a little guilty but trying to be spiritual,” but genuinely and eternally innocent. The ego fears this because guilt is its fuel. Without guilt, the ego cannot survive.

2. *Your power*

As God created you, you share in God’s power to create with love. You are not a helpless victim of the world you see; you are a mind with the power to choose between fear and love. The ego wants you to believe you are small, at the mercy of circumstances, so you will never question its rule.

3. *Your unity with all life*

If you are as God created you, so is everyone else. That means no one is truly guilty, no matter how they appear to behave. The ego hides this because it thrives on judgment and separation. If you saw your brother as he truly is, the ego’s world would dissolve.

What is the Holy Spirit revealing?

The Holy Spirit is the quiet Voice in your mind that remembers the truth about you. Through this lesson, the Holy Spirit is saying:

  • “You are not broken.”
  • “You have never truly left your Source.”
  • “Everything you think you have done to separate yourself is only a dream.”

The Holy Spirit reveals that your Identity is not something you build, improve, or fix. It is something you *accept*. It is already complete. The practice of this lesson is like gently lifting a veil and letting the light of your true Self shine through.

Applied to Daily Life

Let’s bring this into the situations where we usually forget who we are.

1. Relationships

Suppose you’re in a conflict with a partner, friend, or family member. You feel misunderstood, attacked, or rejected. The ego says:

  • “I’m not enough.”
  • “They don’t really love me.”
  • “I must defend myself.”

In that moment, you can pause and remember:

*“I am as God created me.”*

This means:

  • My worth is not determined by how this person sees me.
  • I am still innocent, even if I made a mistake.
  • They, too, are as God created them—beneath their fear, they are love.

You might say silently:

“Right now, I feel hurt and defensive. But this is not who I truly am. I am as God created me—whole and loving. And so is this person. Let me see them and myself through that light.”

This doesn’t mean you deny your feelings or stay in harmful situations. It means you let the Holy Spirit reinterpret the situation, so your response comes from peace rather than fear.

2. Work and performance

At work, you may feel pressure to prove yourself, fear of failure, or anxiety about money or status. The ego says:

  • “If I don’t succeed, I’m worthless.”
  • “I must constantly perform to be safe.”

Into this, you bring the thought:

*“I am as God created me.”*

This reminds you:

  • Your value is not measured by productivity, income, or praise.
  • You can do your work with peace instead of strain.
  • You can let go of the idea that your identity is your job.

You might say:

“My job is something I do, not what I am. I am as God created me—safe, loved, and complete, regardless of outcomes.”

3. Illness and the body

When the body is in pain or illness, the ego uses it as proof that you are weak, abandoned, or punished. It whispers:

  • “See? You’re vulnerable. You’re just a body.”

Lesson 94 does not ask you to deny symptoms, but to remember that *your Self is not a body.* You are spirit, untouched by sickness. Even while caring for the body, taking medicine, or seeking help, you can hold this inner truth:

“I am as God created me—spirit, not flesh. My true Self cannot be harmed.”

This shift can bring peace, reduce fear, and open the mind to healing in whatever form is most helpful.

4. Anxiety and daily stress

When you feel anxious—about the future, money, relationships, health—the ego says:

  • “You’re on your own.”
  • “You’re not safe.”

In those moments, quietly repeat:

*“I am as God created me.”*

Let it mean:

  • I am not alone; I remain in God.
  • My safety lies in what I am, not in circumstances.
  • I can choose to rest in the Self that cannot be threatened.

You might notice that the anxiety doesn’t vanish instantly, but the intensity softens. You are shifting allegiance—from the fearful self-image to the Self created by God.

Overcoming Resistance

This lesson can stir up deep resistance. Here are some reasons why, and how to meet them gently.

1. “It feels untrue.”

You may think, “I don’t feel holy or innocent. I feel guilty, angry, or depressed. How can I be as God created me?”

The Course is not asking you to *feel it yet; it is asking you to be willing* to let it be true. Feelings follow practice. You are simply repeating a fact about your real Identity, even if your emotions and thoughts haven’t caught up.

You might say:

“I don’t feel this yet, but I am willing to let it be true. I am willing to be shown.”

2. Fear of losing your “self”

Part of you may fear: “If I accept I am as God created me, I’ll lose my individuality, my story, my personality.” The ego believes that without its drama, you will be nothing.

In truth, you lose nothing real. You only release suffering, guilt, and fear. Your personality can still function in the world, but it becomes lighter, kinder, less burdened. You do not disappear; you *remember* who you are.

3. Attachment to guilt

Strangely, we can be attached to guilt. It seems to give us a sense of identity: “I am the one who failed, who hurt others, who never gets it right.” Letting go of guilt can feel like letting go of a familiar home, even if it’s painful.

This lesson invites you to question whether guilt is really your home. The Holy Spirit gently says:

“You have made a home in a place of suffering, but your true home is in peace. Come home to what you are.”

Today’s Practice (Lesson 94)

Here is a simple way to practice this lesson throughout the day.

1. Morning quiet time (5–10 minutes or more if you can)

  • Sit quietly, close your eyes, and take a few gentle breaths.
  • Say slowly, with as much sincerity as you can:

*“I am as God created me.”*

  • Let the words sink in. You do not need to force belief; just let them rest in your mind.
  • If thoughts arise like, “No, I’m not,” or memories of guilt, simply notice them and respond gently:

“This is what I made of myself, but I am as God created me.”

  • Imagine a soft light within you—calm, steady, unchanging. This light is your true Self. Rest with it for a few minutes.

2. Hourly remembrance

As often as you can, especially on the hour:

  • Pause briefly, even for 30 seconds.
  • Say inwardly:

*“I am as God created me.”*

  • If you are upset, add:

“I have been mistaken about myself. I am still as God created me.”

3. Using it in specific situations

Whenever you feel:

  • Angry
  • Afraid
  • Ashamed
  • Anxious
  • Unworthy

Pause and say:

*“I am as God created me.”*

Then, if you can, add:

“And so is my brother / this person / everyone.”

Let that thought soften your perception, even a little.

4. Evening reflection

Before sleep:

  • Recall one or two moments in the day when you remembered this thought.
  • Thank yourself for your willingness, even if it felt weak or brief.
  • End the day with:

*“Whatever I seemed to be today, in truth I am as God created me.”*

Comparable ACIM Lessons

Several lessons closely echo this idea:

  • **Lesson 93: “Light and joy and peace abide in me.”**

This prepares you to accept that your true nature is unchanged and wholly loving.

  • **Lesson 96: “Salvation comes from my one Self.”**

This extends the idea that your real Self, as God created it, is the source of all healing.

  • **Lesson 110: “I am as God created me.”**

This is a direct repetition, showing how central this idea is to the Course’s entire thought system.

  • **Lesson 132: “I loose the world from all I thought it was.”**

When you remember who you are, the world you made from guilt and fear begins to loosen and dissolve.

These lessons all point to the same core: your Identity is not the ego’s story. It is the holy, innocent Self that God created and that has never changed.

Closing Thought

Let this be enough for today:

You do not have to fix yourself, justify yourself, or prove yourself.

You are as God created you—now, not later.

Each time you remember this, even for a moment, a little more of the burden you carry falls away. Let today be a gentle day of remembering.
