LESSON 75

The light has come.

Het Ware Onderricht (Core Teaching)

In choosing salvation rather than attack, I merely choose to recognize what is already there. Salvation is a decision made already. Attack and grievances are not there to choose. That is why I always choose between truth and illusion; between what is there and what is not. The light has come. I can but choose the light, for it has no alternative. It has replaced the darkness, and the darkness has gone.

*ACIM Lesson 75: “The light has come.”*

This lesson is a turning point in the Workbook. It is not about waiting for light, hoping for light, or trying to deserve light. It is a bold, present declaration:

*“The light has come.”*

Not will come, not might come if I improve, but has come. It is already here. This lesson invites you to stop postponing your awakening and to accept, even a little, that what God created you to be is already shining.

I. The Core Teaching

1. What does “the light” mean?

In the language of A Course in Miracles, *light* is not physical light. It is:

  • The awareness of God’s Love
  • The recognition of your innocence and holiness
  • The undoing of the belief in separation
  • The remembrance that only Love is real

So when you say, “The light has come,” you are really saying:

“The truth of what I am is already here. I am not what my fear says I am. I am as God created me.”

This lesson is about *acceptance, not achievement. You are not trying to create* the light. You are letting yourself notice what has always been true.

2. What is the ego trying to hide?

The ego is the thought system of separation. Its survival depends on you believing:

  • You are guilty
  • You are alone
  • You are vulnerable
  • You are a body, limited and destined to suffer and die

The ego is terrified of the idea that *you are already safe and loved*. Why? Because if you fully accepted this, the ego’s entire story of fear, defense, attack, and specialness would collapse.

So the ego tries to hide the light by:

  • **Reinterpreting everything through fear**: “This person is a threat. This situation is dangerous. I must protect myself.”
  • **Keeping you focused on the past and future**: “You did terrible things before; you’ll suffer later.”
  • **Making guilt feel justified**: “You really are to blame. Others really are to blame.”
  • **Convincing you that awakening is far away**: “You’re not ready. You’re too flawed. Maybe later.”

The ego’s goal is to keep you from noticing that right now, beneath all your thoughts, *you are already in God’s peace*.

3. What is the Holy Spirit revealing?

The Holy Spirit is the Voice for God in your mind. In this lesson, the Holy Spirit is gently saying:

“The war is over. You are forgiven, because you were never truly guilty. You are safe in God now.”

The Holy Spirit reveals that:

  • You have never truly left God.
  • The separation was a dream, not a real event.
  • Your innocence is not something you earn; it is what you are.
  • Every situation can be reinterpreted as a call for love or an expression of love.

When you say, “The light has come,” you are choosing to listen to the Holy Spirit instead of the ego. You are saying:

“I am willing to see this world as forgiven. I am willing to see myself as forgiven. I am willing to see my brother as forgiven.”

This is why the lesson also says:

*“The light has come. I have forgiven the world.”*

Not I will forgive it someday, but *I accept that forgiveness is already accomplished in truth*, and I am learning to align my perception with that fact.

II. Applied to Daily Life

Let’s bring this into the places where it feels hardest: relationships, work, illness, anxiety, and daily stress.

1. Relationships

Suppose you’re upset with someone—partner, friend, family member. The ego says:

  • “They hurt me.”
  • “They should have behaved differently.”
  • “I can’t trust them.”

The world looks dark because you are looking through the lens of grievance.

Now bring in the lesson:

*“The light has come. I have forgiven you.”*

This does not mean you deny your feelings or pretend you’re not hurt. It means you are *willing to see beyond the story*. You can say inwardly:

  • “I am willing to see the light in you that the ego hides.”
  • “I am willing to remember we share the same innocence in God.”
  • “I choose to let the Holy Spirit reinterpret this for me.”

You may still set boundaries. You may still say “no” to harmful behavior. But you do it from a place of *inner peace*, not attack. You are no longer using the relationship to prove separation; you are using it to remember unity.

2. Work and responsibilities

At work, the ego says:

  • “I’m under pressure.”
  • “I’m not enough.”
  • “Others are competing with me.”

You feel small and threatened.

Pause and say:

*“The light has come. I am not a victim of this world.”*

(Connected to Lesson 31.)

You can then ask:

  • “Holy Spirit, how would You have me see this?”
  • “Show me the light in this situation.”

Perhaps you notice:

  • You can do what you can today and let the rest go.
  • Your worth is not measured by productivity.
  • The people around you are not enemies but brothers, all afraid in different ways.

The situation may not change instantly, but your *inner experience* begins to shift from fear to quiet trust.

3. Illness and pain

The body seems to prove that you are vulnerable. The ego uses illness to say:

  • “You are weak.”
  • “You are at the mercy of the world.”
  • “You are this body.”

The Course never asks you to deny symptoms. It asks you to question their *meaning*.

In the midst of illness, you might say:

  • “The light has come. My reality in God is untouched by this.”
  • “I am willing to remember that I am spirit, not a body.”
  • “Holy Spirit, help me see this as an opportunity to deepen trust, not to reinforce fear.”

You still take care of the body—medicine, rest, appropriate help—but you hold a deeper awareness: *This is not what I am.* The light that I am cannot be sick, cannot be harmed.

4. Anxiety and daily stress

Anxiety is often the ego’s constant whisper: “Something is wrong. Something will go wrong. You are not safe.”

When anxiety rises, pause and gently affirm:

  • “The light has come. I am safe in God.”
  • “I am willing to see this moment through the eyes of peace.”
  • “I do not know what anything is for, but the Holy Spirit does.”

You don’t have to feel peaceful immediately. This lesson is about *willingness*, not instant emotional change. Every time you choose this thought, you loosen the ego’s grip and open a little more to the light that is already present.

III. Overcoming Resistance

1. Why might this lesson be difficult?

You might notice thoughts like:

  • “If the light has come, why do I still feel afraid?”
  • “If the world is forgiven, why is there so much suffering?”
  • “It feels dishonest to say ‘The light has come’ when I don’t see it.”

The Course understands this resistance. The ego equates light with loss:

  • “If I accept the light, I’ll lose my individuality.”
  • “I’ll have to give up my special relationships.”
  • “I’ll be asked to sacrifice what I enjoy.”

But the truth is the opposite:

*The light does not take anything real away from you. It only removes what hurts you.*

2. Gently addressing doubts and fear of letting go

If you feel afraid, you can speak honestly to the Holy Spirit:

  • “I’m afraid of what this light means.”
  • “I’m afraid to let go of my grievances.”
  • “I don’t know who I’d be without my stories.”

And then add:

“But I am willing to be shown, gently. I am willing to be led at a pace I can handle.”

The Holy Spirit never forces. The light is not a harsh spotlight exposing your flaws; it is a *soft, loving presence* revealing that you have no real flaws in God.

You are not asked to leap into full enlightenment today. You are asked to *take one small step: to say, “The light has come,”* and allow that idea to soften your mind, even a little.

IV. Today’s Practice (Step-by-Step)

Here is a simple way to practice Lesson 75 throughout the day.

1. Morning practice (5–10 minutes)

1. Sit quietly, close your eyes if you like.

2. Slowly repeat:

  • **“The light has come. I have forgiven the world.”**

3. Let the words sink in. You don’t have to force belief; just let them be present in your mind.

4. Imagine a soft light gently filling your awareness—not as a picture, but as a feeling of safety and quiet.

5. Say inwardly:

  • “Holy Spirit, help me see today through this light. Let me remember that forgiveness is already accomplished in truth.”

6. Rest a moment in silence, letting any sense of peace, however small, be enough.

2. Short practice periods during the day

Several times an hour, or whenever you remember:

  • Pause for a few seconds.
  • Say quietly (or in your mind):
  • **“The light has come.”**
  • **“I have forgiven the world.”**

Let this be like a reset button. You are reminding yourself:

“I am not bound to my old way of seeing. Another way is available now.”

3. Using the lesson with specific situations

When something upsets you—a person, a news story, a memory, a worry—do this:

1. Notice the upset.

2. Say:

  • **“The light has come. I have forgiven the world.”**

3. Then add, if you wish:

  • “I am willing to see this differently.”

4. Give the situation to the Holy Spirit:

  • “Show me the light in this. Show me the innocence behind this appearance.”

You don’t need to figure out how to see it differently. Your part is willingness; the Holy Spirit’s part is reinterpretation.

4. Evening reflection

Before sleep, take a moment:

1. Recall one or two situations from the day where you remembered: “The light has come.”

2. Thank yourself for your willingness, however small it seemed.

3. If there were times you forgot, simply say:

  • “Even when I forget, the light has come. I rest in that now.”

V. Comparable ACIM Lessons

Lesson 75 is woven together with many other Workbook ideas:

  • **Lesson 34: “I could see peace instead of this.”**

Connected because both invite a different interpretation of what you see. Lesson 75 says the light is already here; Lesson 34 says you can choose to see in alignment with that light.

  • **Lesson 68: “Love holds no grievances.”**

To say “The light has come” is to accept that grievances are not real in truth. You cannot hold onto grievances and fully accept the light.

  • **Lesson 72: “Holding grievances is an attack on God’s plan for salvation.”**

Lesson 75 is the joyful recognition that God’s plan has already succeeded in truth—light has come, and salvation is sure.

  • **Lesson 93: “Light and joy and peace abide in me.”**

Lesson 75 focuses on light as something that has come; Lesson 93 focuses on light as something that abides in you. Together they affirm that light is both within you and all around you.

  • **Lesson 132: “I loose the world from all I thought it was.”**

Lesson 75 says, “I have forgiven the world.” Lesson 132 expands on this by inviting you to release all your old meanings and let the world be reinterpreted by the Holy Spirit.

VI. Closing Thought

“The light has come” does not mean you must feel perfect today. It means that *truth has never left you*, no matter how dark things seem. You are simply learning to turn toward what has always been there.

Even if you accept this idea for a single, quiet breath, that is enough for today.

Let this be your gentle reminder:

*The light has come. I am not what my fear says I am.
I am as God created me, and nothing can change that.*
