Here is the text of *ACIM Lesson 303*:

*"The holy Christ is born in me today."*

*Watch with me, angels, watch with me today.
Let all God’s holy Thoughts surround me, and
be still with me while Heaven’s Son is born.
Let earthly sounds be quiet, and the sights
to which I am accustomed disappear.
Let Christ be welcomed where He is at home.
And let Him hear the sounds He understands,
and see but sights which show His Father’s Love.
Let Him no longer be a stranger here,
for He is born again in me today.*

>

*Your Son is welcome, Father. He has come
to save me from the evil self I made.
He is the Self that You have given me.
He is but what I really am in truth.
He is the Son You love above all things.
He is my Self as You created me.
It is not Christ that can be crucified.
Safe in Your Arms let me receive Your Son.*

1. The Core Teaching

“The holy Christ is born in me today.”

This lesson is not talking about a historical event or a future spiritual achievement. It is pointing to a *present fact* that we are learning to accept:

  • Christ is not a person outside you.
  • Christ is the one Self we all share.
  • “Born in me today” means: *I am willing now to recognize what has always been true.*

The Course uses the word *Christ to mean your real Identity* as God created you—innocent, whole, untouched by guilt, fear, or death. This Self has never changed, never been damaged, never been threatened. It is the part of your mind that still knows God and still knows Love as your only reality.

So why does it say “born”? Because in your awareness, this Self has been *forgotten, covered over by the ego’s story of separation. The “birth” is the reappearance of what was always there*, like the sun appearing from behind clouds. The sun didn’t start existing when the clouds parted; you just became able to see it.

What is the ego trying to hide?

The ego’s basic claim is:

“You are separate, guilty, vulnerable, and alone. You left God, and now you must defend yourself and prove your worth.”

If Christ is your true Self, then the ego’s entire story collapses. So the ego tries to hide:

1. *Your innocence.*

If you are the Christ, you are completely innocent. The ego needs you to believe you are guilty so you will keep seeking outside yourself for salvation—through special relationships, achievements, control, or self-punishment.

2. *Your unity with everyone.*

If Christ is the one Self in all, then no one is truly separate or “other.” The ego depends on differences, comparisons, and specialness. It needs you to believe: “I am not like them. I am better/worse than them. I must protect myself from them.”

3. *Your safety.*

The Christ Self cannot be harmed. The body can seem to suffer, but your true Self remains untouched. The ego hides this by convincing you that your identity is the body—so threat, illness, and loss seem to define what you are.

4. *Your direct connection to God.*

If you are Christ, you need no external authority to tell you that you are loved. The ego fears this because its existence depends on you believing you are cut off from God and must bargain, sacrifice, or perform to be accepted.

What is the Holy Spirit revealing?

The Holy Spirit is the Voice in your mind that remembers the truth about you. In this lesson, He is gently telling you:

  • “You are not the ‘evil self’ you made.”
  • “The Self God gave you is already in you, waiting to be welcomed.”
  • “Christ is not a stranger here unless you insist on being a stranger to yourself.”

The Holy Spirit reveals:

  • **Your real Self is loving and loved.**
  • **You are not the ego’s story.**
  • **You are not your past.**
  • **You are not your mistakes.**
  • **You are not your defenses.**

“The holy Christ is born in me today” really means:

Today I am willing to let go of who I think I am, and allow my true Self to shine through.

2. Applied to Daily Life

Let’s bring this into the situations where we usually forget who we are.

Relationships

Imagine you’re in a conflict with a partner, friend, or family member. The ego says:

  • “They’re attacking me.”
  • “I must defend myself.”
  • “I must win or I’ll be hurt.”

In that moment, this lesson invites you to pause and say inwardly:

  • “The holy Christ is born in me today.”
  • “If Christ is in me, Christ is also in them.”
  • “We are not two guilty selves fighting; we are one Self, confused and afraid.”

From this awareness, you might:

  • Speak more gently.
  • Listen instead of rehearsing your defense.
  • Admit your fear or hurt instead of attacking.
  • Be willing to see their innocence as well as your own.

You don’t have to “perform spirituality.” You simply become a little more willing to see both of you as more than your egos.

Work

At work, the ego identity is often: “I am my role, my performance, my status.”

If a project fails, the ego says: “I am a failure.”

If you succeed, it says: “Now I’m worthy—for a moment.”

This lesson invites you to remember:

  • “The holy Christ is born in me today. My value is not on the line here.”
  • “I can do my work responsibly, but my identity is not my job.”
  • “I share the same Self with my colleagues, boss, or clients.”

From this, you may:

  • Feel less threatened by criticism.
  • Be less desperate for praise.
  • Be more honest and less afraid to admit mistakes.
  • Treat others less as competitors and more as brothers.

Illness

Illness can feel like proof that you are weak and unsafe. The ego says:

  • “See? You are a body. You are vulnerable. You are at the mercy of the world.”

This lesson does not ask you to deny symptoms or refuse help. It invites you to *re-interpret* what illness means.

You might say:

  • “The holy Christ is born in me today. My true Self cannot be sick.”
  • “My body can appear to suffer, but my Self remains whole.”
  • “I can let this experience be used for healing my mind, not for deepening fear.”

Practically, this might mean:

  • You still take medicine, see doctors, rest—without guilt.
  • You watch the fear thoughts arise and gently remind yourself: “This is not what I am.”
  • You ask: “Holy Spirit, how can I see this differently? How can this be used to deepen trust rather than despair?”

Anxiety and Daily Stress

When anxiety arises, the ego whispers:

  • “Something is wrong with you.”
  • “You are not safe.”
  • “You must control everything.”

This lesson offers another inner voice:

  • “The holy Christ is born in me today. I am not this anxious self.”
  • “This fear is a cloud; my Self is the sky behind it.”
  • “I am willing to rest in the Self that is not afraid.”

You might:

  • Place a hand on your heart and repeat the lesson slowly.
  • Breathe and imagine you are sitting with Christ within you—calm, loving, patient.
  • Let your anxious thoughts pass by without arguing with them, knowing they are not your true voice.

3. Overcoming Resistance

Why might this lesson be difficult?

1. *It feels too big.*

“Christ is born in me? That sounds grandiose or unrealistic.”

The ego hears “Christ” and thinks of specialness. But the Course means the exact opposite: the *shared Self*, the quiet, humble truth in everyone.

2. *Fear of losing your familiar identity.*

Even if your self-image is painful, it’s familiar. To say, “I am not this ‘evil self’ I made” can feel like stepping into the unknown.

The ego fears: “If I let go of guilt, who will I be? How will I protect myself? How will I stay in control?”

3. *Guilt and unworthiness.*

You may think: “Not me. I’ve done too much wrong. I’m not pure enough for Christ.”

The Course gently answers: Christ is not a reward for good behavior; Christ is what you are underneath all behavior.

4. *Confusion with religious images.*

If you associate “Christ” with a specific religious figure or dogma, it may bring up resistance. This lesson is not asking you to adopt a religion. It is asking you to accept that your *true nature is love*.

Be gentle with your resistance. You don’t have to force belief. You only need a *little willingness*:

  • “I don’t fully understand this, but I am willing to be shown.”
  • “I’m afraid of letting go, but I’m willing to let the Holy Spirit hold my hand.”
  • “I don’t feel like Christ, but I am willing to consider that my feelings are not the final truth.”

4. Today’s Practice

Here is a simple way to practice this lesson today.

1. Morning quiet time (5–15 minutes)

  • Sit comfortably, close your eyes.
  • Take a few slow breaths.
  • Say slowly, with as much sincerity as you can:

“The holy Christ is born in me today.”

  • Then read (or recall) the prayer of the lesson, pausing at any line that touches you.
  • After reading, sit in silence for a minute or two.

You might silently repeat:

“Let Christ be welcomed where He is at home.”

  • You don’t need to feel anything special. Just be willing.

2. Short reminders during the day

Use this thought frequently, especially when upset:

  • When you feel irritated, anxious, or guilty:

“The holy Christ is born in me today. I am not this fear.”

  • When you judge someone:

“The holy Christ is born in us today.”

  • When you feel unworthy or ashamed:

“He is the Self that You have given me. He is but what I really am in truth.”

Say it gently, not as a command, but as an invitation.

3. In a specific difficulty

If a particular issue is bothering you (a conflict, illness, worry):

1. Bring the situation to mind.

2. Say inwardly:

“Holy Spirit, let me see this with Christ’s eyes.
The holy Christ is born in me today.
Show me that I am not the ‘evil self’ I made.”

3. Sit for a moment and allow any softening, any new perspective, to arise.

It may be very subtle—a little less tension, a little more space.

4. Evening reflection

Before sleep:

  • Recall a few moments in the day where you remembered the lesson.
  • Give thanks, even if it was only once.
  • If you forgot most of the day, simply say:

“Father, Your Son is welcome.
Let Christ be born in my awareness as I sleep.
I am willing to remember tomorrow.”

5. Comparable ACIM Lessons

This lesson is closely related to several others:

  • **Lesson 110: “I am as God created me.”**

Both affirm your true Identity as unchanged by the ego’s story. Lesson 303 adds the sense of welcoming that Identity into awareness.

  • **Lesson 93: “Light and joy and peace abide in me.”**

Here you learn that your real Self is already filled with light and joy. Lesson 303 calls that Self “the holy Christ” and invites you to let it be “born” in your awareness.

  • **Lesson 158: “Today I learn to give as I receive.”**

This lesson speaks of Christ’s vision. Lesson 303 is about recognizing Christ within, which naturally leads to seeing with Christ’s vision.

  • **Lesson 191: “I am the holy Son of God Himself.”**

Very similar in content: your true Identity is the Son of God, not the ego. Lesson 303 expresses the same idea in the language of birth and welcome.

  • **Lesson 252: “The Son of God is my Identity.”**

Again, the same core: you are the Christ-Self, not the separated self. Lesson 303 emphasizes the experience of this as a present event.

6. Closing Thought

“The holy Christ is born in me today” does not mean you must suddenly become perfect. It means you are willing, today, to let a little more of your real Self shine through the cracks of your defenses.

You do not have to make Christ.

You only have to *welcome* what is already there.

Let this be a gentle day of welcoming—of yourself, of your brothers, of the quiet truth that you are far more loving, safe, and holy than you have ever believed.
