Here is the idea for *A Course in Miracles Lesson 276*:

**“The Word of God is given me to speak.”**

I. The Core Teaching

This lesson is about *identity and communication. It tells us that our true function is to let God’s Voice speak through us, instead of the ego’s voice. The “Word of God” here does not mean a set of religious phrases or special holy language. It means the message of Love* that comes from our true Self, the Christ within.

What the ego is trying to hide

The ego’s central strategy is to *convince you that you are the author of yourself*—a separate, vulnerable, private mind with its own thoughts, opinions, and defenses. From this belief, it builds a world of:

  • “My” judgments
  • “My” grievances
  • “My” stories about who did what
  • “My” special relationships
  • “My” fears and preferences

The ego wants you to believe that *your voice is your own* and that it is separate from God. It whispers:

  • “I must protect myself with my words.”
  • “I must defend my image.”
  • “I must make sure others know they’re wrong.”
  • “If I don’t speak up for my ego, I’ll be taken advantage of.”

Underneath all this, the ego wants to *hide the fact that there is only one real Voice in your mind—the Voice for God—and that your true joy is to let that Voice speak through you. The ego is terrified that if you let God’s Word be your only communication, the ego’s entire thought system will simply disappear*.

So the ego hides:

1. *Your innocence* – It wants you to feel guilty and ashamed, so you won’t dare to speak for God.

2. *Everyone’s innocence* – It wants you to see others as guilty, so you’ll speak attack instead of blessing.

3. *Your unity with all minds* – It wants you to believe in separate interests, so you’ll use words to protect “yourself” against “others.”

What the Holy Spirit is revealing

The Holy Spirit gently reveals that:

  • You are **not** the ego’s voice.
  • You are **not** the author of fear, judgment, or attack.
  • You are the **Christ**, the beloved Child of God, and your true voice is God’s Word of Love.

“The Word of God is given me to speak” means:

  • You are **given** your function; you don’t invent it.
  • Your role is to **extend** the Love you are, not to create yourself.
  • Every encounter is an opportunity to let **Love speak instead of fear**.

The Holy Spirit reveals that you are always communicating, even in silence. You are either:

  • Extending love (God’s Word), or
  • Calling for love (the ego’s fear, which is still a call for love).

When you accept that the Word of God is given you to speak, you agree to let your life become a *channel for healing. You are not being asked to preach or become “spiritually impressive.” You are being asked to allow your mind to be used* by Love, so that your words, tone, presence, and even your quietness become a reflection of God’s peace.

II. Applied to Daily Life

Let’s look at how this plays out in ordinary situations.

1. Relationships

You’re in a conflict with a partner, friend, or family member. The ego’s word is:

  • “You’re wrong.”
  • “You always do this.”
  • “I need to make you feel how much you’ve hurt me.”

If you pause and remember, “The Word of God is given me to speak,” you might ask internally:

“Holy Spirit, what would You have me say? Or would You have me say nothing right now?”

The Word of God might come as:

  • A gentle, honest statement: “I feel hurt, and I want to understand you instead of attack you.”
  • A willingness to listen instead of interrupt.
  • A simple, “I’m sorry for my part in this.”
  • Or even silence, with a soft, open presence.

The form is less important than the *content*: a willingness to join instead of separate. That is God’s Word in action.

2. Work and career

At work, the ego’s voice says:

  • “I must compete.”
  • “I must impress.”
  • “I must protect my status.”

The Word of God, given you to speak, might look like:

  • Offering help to a coworker instead of withholding information.
  • Speaking truthfully but kindly in a meeting.
  • Admitting a mistake without self-condemnation or blame.
  • Encouraging someone who is struggling.

Again, it’s not about religious language; it’s about *letting Love be your motive* and allowing your words to reflect that.

3. Illness

When you or someone you love is sick, the ego’s word is:

  • “This is proof I’m weak and vulnerable.”
  • “I’m being punished.”
  • “This is unfair.”

God’s Word, through the Holy Spirit, might be:

  • “You remain as God created you—spirit, not a body.”
  • “This can be used for healing of the mind.”
  • “You are not alone in this.”

You might speak this Word silently to yourself, or gently to another:

  • “You are loved.”
  • “You are not your body.”
  • “We can ask for peace together right now.”

The body may or may not change, but the *mind can be healed* by accepting a different interpretation.

4. Anxiety and fear

In anxiety, the ego’s word is:

  • “Something bad is coming.”
  • “You can’t handle this.”
  • “You’re on your own.”

When you remember, “The Word of God is given me to speak,” you can turn inward:

“Holy Spirit, what is Your Word about this situation?”

You may hear or feel:

  • “I am with you.”
  • “Nothing real can be threatened.”
  • “You are safe in God right now.”

You can repeat these ideas to yourself, letting them replace the ego’s fearful commentary. You are *choosing whose word you will believe*.

5. Daily stress and small irritations

Traffic, delays, rude people, technology problems—these are all moments where the ego wants to speak:

  • “This is ridiculous.”
  • “People are so inconsiderate.”
  • “I don’t have time for this.”

Letting the Word of God be given you to speak might mean:

  • Silently blessing the other driver.
  • Saying inwardly, “I choose peace instead of this.”
  • Softening your tone with a customer service agent.
  • Taking a breath and remembering, “This is a neutral event; only my interpretation hurts me.”

In each case, you are *retraining your mind* to be a channel for peace instead of grievance.

III. Overcoming Resistance

This lesson can feel threatening because it seems to say:

  • “I must give up my personal voice.”
  • “I’ll become passive or weak.”
  • “I’ll be taken advantage of if I don’t defend myself.”

The Course is not asking you to become a doormat or to deny your feelings. It is asking you to question *who* you think you are when you speak.

Your resistance might sound like:

  • “I don’t know how to hear the Holy Spirit.”
  • “What if I say the wrong thing?”
  • “I’m not spiritual enough for this.”

Gently remember:

1. The Holy Spirit is *already in your mind. You don’t have to create Him; you only have to allow* Him.

2. You learn by *practice, not perfection*. Even a small willingness is enough.

3. Sometimes the Word of God is *no word at all*—just a quiet, loving presence.

You are not being asked to give up your uniqueness. You are being invited to let your uniqueness become a *beautiful, individual expression of the same Love* that lives in everyone.

IV. Today’s Practice

Here is a simple way to practice Lesson 276 today.

1. Morning quiet time (5–15 minutes)

  • Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
  • Say slowly, with intention:

“The Word of God is given me to speak.”

  • Then add:

“Holy Spirit, I am willing to let You speak through me today.
Use my words, my silence, my actions, and my presence for healing.”

  • Sit in quiet for a few minutes. You don’t have to force any thoughts. Just rest in the idea that **you are not alone in your mind**.

2. Short practice periods during the day

Several times today, pause for 10–20 seconds and repeat:

“The Word of God is given me to speak.
I choose to listen before I speak.”

You might do this:

  • Before sending an email or text
  • Before a difficult conversation
  • When you feel triggered, angry, or afraid
  • When you feel tempted to gossip or complain

Ask silently:

“Holy Spirit, what would You have me say?
How would You have me see this person?”

Then proceed as best you can, trusting that even your *willingness* allows correction.

3. When you feel you’ve failed

If you speak harshly or react from ego, don’t condemn yourself. Instead:

  • Pause.
  • Say inwardly:

“I have used my words for separation.
I now place this moment in Your hands, Holy Spirit.
Correct my mind and show me another way.”

If appropriate, you might apologize or clarify. But even if you can’t, your *inner shift* still heals.

4. Evening reflection

Before sleep, briefly review your day:

  • Where did I let the Word of God speak through me?
  • Where did I choose the ego’s word instead?

Offer the whole day to the Holy Spirit:

“Take every word I spoke today and use it for healing.
I am willing to learn to speak only for Love.”

V. Comparable ACIM Lessons

This lesson is closely connected to several others:

  • **Lesson 71: “Only God’s plan for salvation will work.”**

You are letting God’s plan use your words, rather than following the ego’s plan of attack and defense.

  • **Lesson 101: “God’s Will for me is perfect happiness.”**

Speaking God’s Word is not a sacrifice; it is the way to your own happiness.

  • **Lesson 125: “In quiet I receive God’s Word today.”**

You first receive God’s Word in quiet, then extend it through your communication.

  • **Lesson 132: “I loose the world from all I thought it was.”**

As you let God’s Word replace your judgments, you free the world from your attack thoughts.

  • **Lesson 151: “All things are echoes of the Voice for God.”**

You learn to recognize that everything can become a reflection of the one Voice in your mind.

  • **Lesson 183: “I call upon God’s Name and on my own.”**

Calling on God’s Name is the same as accepting your true Identity, whose Word you are given to speak.

VI. Closing Thought

You are not being asked to become someone else. You are being invited to *remember who you already are: a beloved extension of God’s Love. The Word of God is not far away, waiting to be earned. It is already in your heart, waiting to be allowed*.

Today, you need only this gentle willingness:

“Let my words be used for Love.
Let my silence be used for Love.
Let my life be a quiet message:
God’s Love is here.”
