Here is the idea for *A Course in Miracles Lesson 235*:

*“God in His mercy wills that I be saved.”*

The Core Teaching

This lesson is a deep reassurance about the nature of God and, therefore, about your own nature. It tells you that *your safety, your innocence, and your awakening are not fragile, uncertain possibilities*—they are the Will of God. And what God wills is not tentative, not conditional, and not at risk.

What does “saved” mean in ACIM?

In the Course, “saved” does not mean being rescued from an angry God or from punishment. It means:

  • Saved from **illusion**
  • Saved from the belief in **separation**
  • Saved from **guilt, fear, and self‑attack**
  • Saved from the ego’s story of “I am alone, unworthy, and in danger”

To be “saved” is to *remember what you are*: a creation of Love, still held in Love, incapable of truly changing into something unloving.

So this lesson is saying:

God, in His mercy, wills that I remember I am as He created me, and that nothing real has been harmed.

What is the ego trying to hide?

The ego’s entire thought system depends on one central lie:

“You have separated from God, you are guilty, and you must now protect yourself from punishment and loss.”

From this lie comes the whole world of fear, defense, competition, sickness, and death. The ego is trying to hide:

1. *That you are already safe.*

If you knew you were safe in God, you would not need the ego’s constant vigilance, judgments, and defenses.

2. *That you are innocent.*

The ego insists you are guilty—sometimes consciously, sometimes just as a vague sense of “something is wrong with me.” If you realized your innocence, the ego would have no basis for fear.

3. *That God is only Love.*

The ego needs a God who is dangerous, demanding, or at least unreliable. It whispers, “You can’t fully trust God. You’d better manage this yourself.” If you truly saw God as pure Love, you would gladly let go of the ego’s control.

4. *That salvation is certain.*

The ego wants salvation to seem doubtful, far away, or dependent on your personal perfection. It says, “You’re not there yet. You’re failing. You’re behind.” This lesson contradicts that: God wills that you be saved. That means your awakening is not a maybe; it is a certainty.

What is the Holy Spirit revealing?

The Holy Spirit is the Voice for God in your mind, the memory of Truth that has never left you. Through this lesson, the Holy Spirit gently reveals:

1. *God is not your enemy; God is your safety.*

You are not trying to appease God; you are allowing yourself to receive what God has already given—peace, joy, and innocence.

2. *Your “problems” are misperceptions, not facts.*

The Holy Spirit shows that every problem is some version of: “I believe I am separate, guilty, and alone.” Salvation is the correction of that belief.

3. *You cannot fail to be what you are.*

You can dream of being lost, but you cannot actually become lost. You can dream of guilt, but you cannot make guilt real in God’s Mind.

4. *Mercy is the truth about you.*

“Mercy” here means that Reality is gentle. There is no condemnation in God. The harshness you feel is self‑attack, not divine judgment. The Holy Spirit helps you see that you are forgiven because you were never truly condemned.

Applied to Daily Life

Let’s bring this into very practical situations.

Relationships

You may feel:

  • “I’ve hurt this person too much.”
  • “They’ve hurt me too much.”
  • “This relationship is broken beyond repair.”

The ego says: “You are trapped in this story. You are defined by what happened.”

This lesson invites a different inner statement:

“God in His mercy wills that I be saved from this story of guilt and blame. My true Self and their true Self are still innocent, still joined in God.”

In practice, this might look like:

  • Pausing in the middle of an argument and silently saying,

“God wills that I be saved from this fear. I am not a victim, and neither are they. There is another way to see this.”

  • When you feel regret about the past, gently telling yourself,

“I have not changed what I am in God. I am not beyond healing. God’s mercy is stronger than my mistakes.”

Work and Money

You might think:

  • “My worth depends on my performance.”
  • “If I fail here, I’m a failure as a person.”
  • “There is never enough.”

The ego uses work and money to prove separation and scarcity. This lesson says:

“God in His mercy wills that I be saved from the belief that my value is fragile and external.”

Practically:

  • Before a stressful meeting, you might sit quietly and say,

“My safety is not in this outcome. God wills that I be saved from fear. I am carried, even here.”

  • When worrying about finances,

“I am not alone in this. God’s Will for me is peace, not anxiety. I open to guidance instead of panic.”

This doesn’t mean you do nothing. It means you act from a calmer place, trusting that you are not abandoned and that guidance is available.

Illness and the Body

Illness is one of the ego’s strongest “proofs” that you are vulnerable and at risk. The ego says:

  • “Your body is you.”
  • “If your body is threatened, you are threatened.”

The Course teaches that the body is a neutral communication device, not your identity. This lesson says:

“God in His mercy wills that I be saved from the belief that I am a body, limited and doomed.”

In practice, with illness:

  • You can acknowledge the symptoms and seek appropriate care, while also saying inwardly,

“This does not define what I am. I am still as God created me. I ask to see this through the Holy Spirit’s eyes.”

  • When fear arises—about pain, prognosis, or aging—you can repeat,

“God’s Will for me is not fear. I am held in a Love that cannot be harmed.”

This doesn’t deny the experience; it places it in a larger context where you are not a helpless victim of a random universe.

Anxiety and Daily Stress

Daily stress is often the feeling: “It’s all on me.” The ego says:

  • “You must control everything.”
  • “If you don’t, something terrible will happen.”

This lesson counters that with:

“God in His mercy wills that I be saved from the burden of being my own god.”

In small, ordinary moments:

  • In traffic:

“I am not at the mercy of these circumstances. I am at the mercy of God’s Love, which is not cruel.”

  • When overwhelmed by tasks:

“I am not alone with this list. I can be guided. I can do one thing at a time in peace.”

You begin to let go of the belief that your worth and safety depend on managing everything perfectly.

Overcoming Resistance

Why might this lesson be difficult?

1. *Fear of God*

Many of us carry an unconscious belief that God is punitive or at least disappointed. To hear “God wills that I be saved” may stir suspicion: “Saved… but at what cost? What will God take from me?”

The Course gently corrects this: God does not take; the ego takes. God only gives.

2. *Attachment to guilt*

Part of you may feel that guilt is necessary—that it keeps you “good” or proves you care. Letting go of guilt can feel like letting go of responsibility.

The Course says the opposite: true responsibility is accepting the Atonement—the correction of error—not punishing yourself for it.

3. *Fear of losing individuality*

The ego hears “saved” as “dissolved,” “erased,” or “made into something bland.” It fears that union with God means losing your uniqueness.

In truth, what is false and painful falls away, and what is truly you—your joy, creativity, kindness—shines more clearly.

4. *Mistrust of certainty*

The idea that salvation is certain can feel too good to be true. The ego is more comfortable with struggle and ambiguity.

You might think, “If I accept that God wills I be saved, what happens to my familiar identity as a struggler, a fixer, a survivor?”

The answer: that identity softens, and a gentler, truer Self emerges.

If you feel resistance, you are not failing. You are simply noticing the ego’s fear. That noticing itself is progress. You can say:

“Holy Spirit, I am willing to be willing. I may not fully trust this yet, but I offer You my little willingness.”

Today’s Practice

Here is a simple way to practice Lesson 235 today.

1. Morning Quiet Time (5–15 minutes)

  • Sit comfortably, close your eyes if you like.
  • Take a few slow, gentle breaths.
  • Say slowly, several times, letting the words sink in:

*“God in His mercy wills that I be saved.”*

  • Then add:

“I am willing to remember that I am not guilty, not alone, and not separate.
I am willing to accept the safety that is already mine in God.”

  • Sit in silence for a few minutes. If thoughts arise, gently bring them under this idea:
  • “This fear… God in His mercy wills that I be saved from it.”
  • “This person… God in His mercy wills that I see them in innocence.”
  • “This situation… God in His mercy wills that I find peace here.”

2. During the Day: Short Pauses

Whenever you feel:

  • Tension
  • Annoyance
  • Anxiety
  • Guilt

Pause for just a few seconds and say inwardly:

  • **“God in His mercy wills that I be saved from this fear.”**
  • Or simply: **“God wills my peace, not my suffering.”**

Let it be like a gentle reset, not a demand. You are not forcing yourself to feel peaceful; you are reminding yourself of what is true.

3. When You Feel Strong Emotion

If you feel overwhelmed—angry, ashamed, scared—try this:

1. Acknowledge the feeling honestly:

“I feel very afraid right now.”

2. Place the feeling in God’s hands:

“God in His mercy wills that I be saved from this fear. I don’t know how to let it go, but I am willing to be helped.”

3. Imagine the Holy Spirit standing with you, not judging, just holding you in a quiet, steady love.

4. Evening Reflection

Before sleep, take a few minutes to look back over your day:

  • Where did you forget that God wills your peace?
  • Where did you remember, even briefly?

Then say:

“Whatever I seemed to do or not do today, God in His mercy still wills that I be saved. My mistakes cannot change His Will or my reality.”

Let that be your last thought as you fall asleep.

Comparable ACIM Lessons

Several lessons are closely related to Lesson 235:

  • **Lesson 70: “My salvation comes from me.”**

This reminds you that salvation is an inner choice, not something the world gives. Lesson 235 adds that this inner choice is supported by God’s Will.

  • **Lesson 71: “Only God’s plan for salvation will work.”**

The ego has many plans for your “salvation” (success, control, specialness). Lesson 235 affirms that God’s plan—your awakening to innocence—is the only real one, and it is merciful.

  • **Lesson 72: “Holding grievances is an attack on God’s plan for salvation.”**

When you hold grievances, you are choosing against the mercy that God wills for you. Lesson 235 invites you back into alignment with that mercy.

  • **Lesson 99: “Salvation is my only function here.”**

This clarifies that your true function is to accept and extend healing. Lesson 235 reassures you: this function is guaranteed to succeed because it is God’s Will.

  • **Lesson 193: “All things are lessons God would have me learn.”**

Everything can serve your awakening. Lesson 235 says that beneath every event, God’s merciful Will for your salvation is quietly at work.

  • **Lesson 200: “There is no peace except the peace of God.”**

All other forms of “peace” are temporary. Lesson 235 says that God’s Will is that you rest in this one true peace.

Closing Thought

You do not have to earn God’s mercy. You are living inside it, even when you feel lost. Today’s lesson is not asking you to become worthy of salvation; it is asking you to *allow what is already true* to dawn gently in your awareness.

You can rest in this:

“No matter what I think I have done, no matter how far I believe I have wandered,
God in His mercy still wills that I be saved.
And so, in truth, I am.”
