Lesson 207 is a review lesson. It repeats the idea from Lesson 187:
*“I bless the world because I bless myself.”*
(Review of Lesson 187)
In the Review format, the line usually begins:
*“I am not a body. I am free. For I am still as God created me.”*
and then:
*“I bless the world because I bless myself.”*
Let’s explore what this really means, very deeply, but in simple, gentle language.
The Core Teaching
“I am not a body. I am free.”
This line is the foundation. The Course is reminding you that your true Identity is not the body, not the personality, not the story of your life. You are spirit—unchanged, safe, and held in God’s Love.
The body is not evil; it is simply neutral. The ego uses it as a way to say, “I am separate, small, vulnerable, and alone.” The Holy Spirit uses it as a communication device, a way to extend love, kindness, and blessing.
When the lesson says, *“I bless the world because I bless myself,”* it is describing a law of the mind:
- There is only one mind in truth.
- Whatever you give, you keep.
- Whatever you see “out there” is a reflection of what you are choosing “in here.”
So when you bless, you are not “being noble” while secretly losing something. You are recognizing that what you give is what you experience. To bless the world is to accept blessing for yourself.
What is the ego trying to hide?
The ego’s main strategy is to convince you that:
1. You are a separate self in a separate body.
2. What you think and feel is caused by things outside you.
3. You can be attacked, diminished, or deprived by the world.
4. Therefore, you must defend yourself, judge others, and withhold love to stay safe.
From this perspective, blessing looks risky. The ego whispers:
- “If you bless others, they’ll take advantage of you.”
- “If you see innocence in them, you’ll ignore the ‘facts’ and get hurt.”
- “If you forgive, you’ll lose your power or let them off the hook.”
Underneath all of this, the ego is hiding one central fear:
*If you truly bless the world, you will remember that you and your brother are the same. Then the ego’s whole story of separation collapses.*
The ego survives on differences, grievances, and comparisons. Blessing dissolves these.
What is the Holy Spirit revealing?
The Holy Spirit is gently revealing that:
- You are not a guilty, small self trying to survive.
- You are the holy Son of God, still as God created you—pure spirit, pure love.
- Every time you choose to bless, you are choosing to remember who you are.
- Every person you bless is a mirror in which you see your own innocence.
When you say, *“I bless the world because I bless myself,”* you are really saying:
“I accept the truth of what I am.
As I accept it, I naturally extend it.
In extending it, I experience it more fully.”
Blessing is not forced positivity. It is the quiet recognition that only love is real, and that anything else is a temporary misperception in need of gentle correction.
Applied to Daily Life
Let’s bring this into very ordinary situations.
Relationships
Suppose someone close to you is critical or distant. The ego says:
- “They’re the problem.”
- “I’m hurt because of them.”
- “I’ll protect myself by closing my heart.”
The lesson invites another way:
- Pause and remember: “I am not a body. I am free.”
- Then: “I bless the world because I bless myself.”
You might say inwardly:
“I choose to see you as more than your behavior.
I choose to remember that, in truth, you and I share the same innocence.
I bless you with peace, and in doing so, I accept peace for myself.”
You may still set boundaries or speak honestly, but you do it without attack. You’re no longer trying to punish; you’re allowing healing.
Work
At work, you may feel competition, stress, or resentment. The ego says:
- “I need to get ahead.”
- “Others are obstacles or threats.”
- “If they succeed, I lose.”
The lesson offers a different lens:
“I bless my coworkers because I bless myself.
Their success does not diminish me; in truth, we share one purpose.
I choose to see our shared interests instead of separate goals.”
You might silently bless a colleague before a meeting:
“May you be guided. May we both be led to what serves the highest good.”
You will notice that as you bless, your own anxiety softens. You feel less alone and more carried.
Illness
When the body is sick or in pain, the ego uses it as proof:
- “See? You are just a body. You are weak, at risk, and doomed.”
The lesson does not ask you to deny symptoms. It invites you to remember:
“I am not a body. I am free.
My reality is spirit, untouched by sickness.”
From this awareness, you can bless:
“I bless this body by seeing it as a temporary learning tool, not my identity.
I bless the world by not using this illness to prove that we are victims.
I bless myself by asking for a shift in perception rather than clinging to fear.”
You still may take medicine, see doctors, and care for the body. But you do so from peace rather than panic.
Anxiety and Daily Stress
In daily stress—traffic, bills, deadlines—the ego says:
- “Life is attacking you.”
- “You’re barely holding it together.”
The lesson invites a quiet turn inward:
1. Notice the tension.
2. Say gently: “I am not a body. I am free.”
3. Then: “I bless the world because I bless myself.”
You might add:
“I bless this situation. I don’t yet see the whole picture,
but I am willing to see it through the Holy Spirit’s eyes.”
As you bless, you shift from being a victim of circumstances to being a bringer of peace into them. The circumstances may or may not change quickly, but your inner experience becomes lighter, more spacious.
Overcoming Resistance
This lesson can feel difficult because it challenges some deep beliefs:
1. *“If I bless, I’ll be weak.”*
The ego equates blessing with vulnerability. But in truth, blessing is strength. It aligns you with the power of love instead of the frailty of fear.
2. *“They don’t deserve my blessing.”*
The Course gently reminds us that no one’s behavior can change what they are in truth. When you bless, you are not approving of illusions; you are recognizing the reality behind them. That recognition heals you.
3. *“I don’t feel blessed myself, so how can I bless others?”*
The miracle is that blessing is how you discover that you are blessed. You don’t wait until you feel holy to extend holiness. You extend it, and in that extension, you begin to feel what was always true.
4. *Fear of losing identity.*
Part of you may fear: “If I really accept that I am spirit, not a body, what happens to my familiar life?” This fear is natural. The Holy Spirit does not rip anything away. He gently reinterprets your life so that it becomes a classroom of love instead of a battleground.
You can speak honestly to the Holy Spirit:
“I am afraid to bless. I am afraid to see oneness.
Please help me. Use even my fear to bring me closer to the truth.”
Nothing in you is condemned. All of it is welcomed and gently undone.
Today’s Practice
Here is a simple way to practice Lesson 207 throughout the day.
1. Morning Quiet Time
- Sit comfortably, close your eyes if you like.
- Take a few slow breaths.
- Say slowly, with willingness:
“I am not a body. I am free.
For I am still as God created me.
I bless the world because I bless myself.”
- Let the words sink in. You don’t have to “make” anything happen. Just allow.
You might ask:
“Holy Spirit, show me today how to bless the world.
Let every encounter be an opportunity to remember who I am.”
2. Short Practice Periods (throughout the day)
Several times an hour, or whenever you remember:
- Pause for a moment.
- Repeat inwardly:
“I am not a body. I am free.
I bless the world because I bless myself.”
- If someone comes to mind—friend, stranger, or someone you struggle with—silently say:
“I bless you with peace, for in blessing you I remember my own.”
3. When Upset, Anxious, or Angry
When you feel triggered:
1. Acknowledge: “I feel upset right now.”
2. Breathe.
3. Say:
“I am not a body. I am free.
I bless this situation because I bless myself.
I am willing to see this differently.”
4. Wait a moment in silence. Even a few seconds of willingness opens the door for a shift in perception.
4. Evening Reflection
Before sleep:
- Review your day gently.
- Notice any moments you blessed someone or something. Give thanks for those.
- Notice any moments you withheld blessing. Without guilt, offer them to the Holy Spirit:
“I give You these moments of fear and judgment.
Please reinterpret them for me.
I want to learn to bless, so I can remember who I am.”
Then end with:
“I am not a body. I am free.
For I am still as God created me.”
Comparable ACIM Lessons
Several lessons are closely related:
- **Lesson 187: “I bless the world because I bless myself.”**
The original statement of today’s idea. It explains that giving and receiving are the same and that blessing is the natural expression of a healed mind.
- **Lesson 61: “I am the light of the world.”**
Both lessons emphasize your function as a bringer of blessing and light, not because of ego specialness, but because of what you are in truth.
- **Lesson 68: “Love holds no grievances.”**
Grievances block blessing. To bless the world, you must be willing to release grievances and see innocence instead of guilt.
- **Lesson 73: “I will there be light.”**
Choosing to bless is choosing light. You are aligning your will with God’s Will for happiness and peace.
- **Lesson 156: “I walk with God in perfect holiness.”**
When you bless the world, you are walking in the awareness that God goes with you, and that holiness is your shared reality.
All these lessons point to the same truth: your mind is powerful, and its true function is to extend love.
Closing Thought
Let this be a gentle day. You do not have to bless perfectly. You only need a little willingness to see differently.
Each time you say, *“I bless the world because I bless myself,”* you are loosening the grip of fear and remembering a little more of who you are.
You are not a body. You are free. And as you bless, you begin to feel that freedom—quietly, softly—awakening in your heart.
