Lesson 206 is a review lesson. It repeats and deepens Lesson 186:
**“I am not a body. I am free.
For I am still as God created me.”**
Review idea:
*“Salvation of the world depends on me.”*
Let’s explore what this really means, gently and deeply.
I. The Core Teaching
1. “I am not a body. I am free.”
In A Course in Miracles, the body is not who you are. It is a temporary communication device, a neutral tool the mind uses. The ego, however, insists:
- “I am this body.”
- “I am this personality.”
- “I am my history, my traumas, my successes, my failures.”
The Course says:
You are spirit, created by God, unchanged and unchangeable. Your true Self is pure love, joined with all life, forever safe.
When the lesson says, “I am not a body. I am free,” it is not denying that you seem to have a body. It is denying that the body defines or limits you. Pain, aging, fatigue, and all bodily concerns belong to the level of form. Your identity does not live there. Your identity lives in the mind that can choose either:
- The ego’s thought system of separation, fear, guilt, and attack, or
- The Holy Spirit’s thought system of unity, forgiveness, innocence, and peace.
Your freedom lies in this choice.
2. “Salvation of the world depends on me.”
This line sounds grandiose to the ego. It hears: “You, as a person, must fix the entire planet.” That would be crushing.
But the Course means something very different.
“Salvation” in ACIM means the healing of perception—the correction of the belief in separation. The “world” that needs saving is the world you see in your mind: a world of separate bodies, competing interests, danger, scarcity, and loss.
“The salvation of the world depends on me” means:
- The way I *choose to see* is what I contribute to the whole Sonship.
- Every time I choose forgiveness instead of judgment, I accept healing not only for myself, but for all minds, because all minds are joined.
- My willingness to see innocence instead of guilt is my part in the healing of the world.
The ego wants to hide this power from you. It wants you to feel:
- Small
- Victimized
- Helpless
- At the mercy of others and of circumstances
Because if you truly remembered your power to choose love, the ego would lose its hold.
The Holy Spirit reveals:
- Your mind is not weak; it is creative.
- Your thoughts of love, forgiveness, and blessing are not private; they strengthen the entire Sonship.
- You are not a passive observer of a cruel world; you are a decision-maker whose choice for love helps dissolve the illusion of cruelty.
So the metaphysical meaning is this:
- You are not a body trapped in a world.
- You are a powerful mind, still as God created you, whose choice for love participates in the undoing of the world of fear.
II. Applied to Daily Life
Let’s bring this down to earth.
1. Relationships
Suppose you feel hurt by a partner, friend, or family member. The ego says:
- “They did this to me.”
- “I am a victim.”
- “I must protect myself with anger, withdrawal, or attack.”
In that moment, you see yourself as a body-personality being mistreated by another body-personality. You feel small and powerless.
This lesson invites another way:
- “I am not a body. I am free.”
I am not this wounded self-image. I am spirit, still as God created me.
- “Salvation of the world depends on me.”
My choice to see this person with forgiveness instead of blame contributes to the healing of all minds.
You might say inwardly:
“Holy Spirit, help me see my brother as You see him.
Help me see beyond this behavior to the call for love beneath it.
I choose peace instead of this.”
You are not asked to deny your feelings, but to offer them to the Holy Spirit. As you do, you begin to feel less like a victim and more like a healer—a bringer of peace.
2. Work and Career
At work, you may feel:
- Pressure to perform
- Fear of failure
- Competition with others
- Anxiety about money or status
The ego says:
- “Your worth is your productivity.”
- “You must protect your position.”
- “You are in danger if you don’t succeed.”
This lesson gently corrects that:
- “I am not a body. I am free.”
My value is not my job title, income, or performance. My value is given by God and cannot be changed.
- “Salvation of the world depends on me.”
How I choose to see my coworkers—either as rivals or as brothers—matters. My choice for kindness, honesty, and forgiveness is my part in healing the world.
You might silently bless a difficult coworker:
“You and I share the same true Self.
I choose to remember that, even if my ego does not feel it yet.”
This changes the atmosphere of your mind, and that shift radiates outward.
3. Illness and Pain
When the body is sick or in pain, the ego uses it to prove:
- “You are a body.”
- “You are weak and vulnerable.”
- “You are at the mercy of circumstances.”
The Course never asks you to deny symptoms or refuse practical help. It asks you to question the identity you attach to them.
You might say:
“This body seems to be sick, but I am not this body.
I am spirit, still as God created me—whole, loved, and safe.
Holy Spirit, help me use this situation as a classroom for trust and forgiveness, not as proof of fear.”
In that shift, you move from “I am a sick body” to “I am a holy mind, learning to trust God.” That is salvation in action.
4. Anxiety and Daily Stress
Traffic, bills, news, family demands—these can all create a background hum of anxiety. The ego whispers:
- “You are alone.”
- “You must manage everything.”
- “If you don’t control it all, you’ll be harmed.”
This lesson offers a different inner posture:
“I am not a body. I am free.
I am not alone. I am held in God’s Mind.
The salvation of the world depends on my willingness to choose peace instead of fear, right now, in this very moment.”
You can pause during the day and say:
“I choose to remember who I am.
I choose to remember who everyone is.
Holy Spirit, guide my next step.”
This is how salvation becomes very practical: one small choice for peace at a time.
III. Overcoming Resistance
Why might this lesson feel difficult?
1. *Fear of responsibility*
“Salvation of the world depends on me” can sound like a heavy burden. The ego says, “I can’t handle that!”
The Holy Spirit clarifies: You are not asked to fix the world. You are asked to let your mind be healed. Your willingness is enough.
2. *Attachment to being a body*
The identity of “I am this body and personality” feels familiar and solid. To question it can feel like losing yourself.
But the Course is not taking away your self; it is restoring your real Self—far more loving and safe than the small identity you defend.
3. *Fear of losing specialness*
If all minds are one, then no one is more special or more guilty than anyone else. The ego resists this because it thrives on comparison.
The Holy Spirit gently shows that what you lose is only isolation and conflict, and what you gain is shared joy.
4. *Doubt about impact*
“How can my little thoughts help the world?”
The Course teaches that minds are joined. A single sincere choice for forgiveness strengthens the whole. You may not see the outer effects, but the inner shift is real and powerful.
If you feel resistance, you can simply say:
“Holy Spirit, I am willing to be willing.
I don’t fully understand this, but I offer You my little willingness.
Use it for the healing of my mind and of all minds.”
That is enough.
IV. Today’s Practice
Here is a gentle structure for practicing Lesson 206 today.
1. Morning (5–10 minutes)
- Sit quietly, close your eyes, and breathe softly.
- Say slowly:
“I am not a body. I am free.
For I am still as God created me.
Salvation of the world depends on me.”
- Let the words sink in. Don’t force belief; just allow them to rest in your mind.
- Ask:
“Holy Spirit, show me today how my thoughts can help heal the world.
Use my eyes, my words, my hands, my time for Your purpose.”
- Sit in silence for a few minutes. If thoughts wander, gently bring them back to:
“I am not a body. I am free.”
2. During the Day (frequent short pauses)
Use brief reminders, especially when upset:
- When you feel stressed, say inwardly:
“I am not a body. I am free.”
- When you are tempted to judge someone:
“Salvation of the world depends on me.
I choose to see this brother through the eyes of forgiveness.”
- When you feel afraid:
“I am still as God created me.
Fear is not my true home.”
You can also use simple “micro-prayers”:
- “Let me be a channel of peace here.”
- “Help me remember who we are.”
- “I choose love instead of this.”
3. Evening (5–10 minutes)
- Review your day gently, without judgment.
- Notice where you felt fear, anger, or guilt. For each situation, say:
“In that moment, I forgot I am not a body.
I forgot salvation of the world depends on my choice for peace.
I now give this memory to the Holy Spirit for healing.”
- End with:
“I am not a body. I am free.
For I am still as God created me.
And I accept my part in the salvation of the world.”
Then rest in quiet for a few moments.
V. Comparable ACIM Lessons
Several lessons are closely related to Lesson 206:
- **Lesson 31: “I am not the victim of the world I see.”**
Both emphasize your power as decision-maker, not victim.
- **Lesson 68: “Love holds no grievances.”**
Grievances block your awareness of your true Self and your function in salvation.
- **Lesson 72: “Holding grievances is an attack on God’s plan for salvation.”**
Shows how your choice to release grievances aligns you with the plan of salvation.
- **Lesson 94: “I am as God created me.”**
The core identity statement repeated in today’s lesson.
- **Lesson 153: “In my defenselessness my safety lies.”**
Both lessons ask you to trust your true identity instead of the ego’s defenses.
- **Lesson 186: “Salvation of the world depends on me.”**
The original statement being reviewed today; Lesson 206 is a deepening of it.
All of these lessons point to the same truth: your mind is powerful, your identity is holy, and your choice for love is never small.
VI. Closing Thought
You are not asked to be perfect today. You are asked to be willing—willing to remember, even for a moment, that you are not a body, that you are free, and that your quiet choice for love helps heal the world.
Let this day be gentle. Let it be a day of small, sincere choices for peace. Each one is a step back into the Self you never truly left.
